Honest Advise Everyone Should Hear

Breaking In

People might dislike hearing this, but it needs to be said. Finance and banking are becoming oversaturated. If you didn’t grow up with a genuine interest in markets, money, or financial systems, if this wasn’t something you naturally gravitated toward long before college, then it may not be the field for you. We don’t need more people who pick finance as freshmen because they heard it “pays well.” That mindset crowds out those with real passion, curiosity, and long‑term commitment. So apologies to the guy who watched The Wolf of Wall Street once or the sorority student with no general interest who chose the major because it sounded lucrative. This is coming from someone working at a firm in NYC that sees thousands of apps per position and see them go to the wrong people. Skilled trades are well paid, in demand, and offer real career stability. If you’re chasing finance for the wrong reasons, consider going where your work is truly needed.
