Andorks has covered every minute of S1E7 “Announcement”
My podcast ANDORKS is recapping, analyzing and scrutinizing the show Andor 7 minutes at a time, and as of this week, we’ve officially completed our coverage of nobody’s favorite episode of Andor: ANNOUNCEMENT.
This is a middle point in the story, in between the high of the Aldhani heist and the lows of Andor’s descent into the Narkina prison, but for our show, this has turned out to be one of our most thematically rich set of episodes.
The episode opens with the ISB cracking down on the Dhani, and comedian Joey Clift joined us to explore all the ways in which indigenous culture has been filtered into Star Wars, down to the name Skywalker.
Luthen then arrives to give Mon Mothma a reality check about the shades of gray that go into fighting a rebellion. Punk musician and candidate for Burbank city council Mike Van Gorder laid out the stakes of Luthen’s moral relativism and why it is so dangerous to the people of the galaxy.
Midway through this very serious episode of TV, film critic Bill Bria reminded us that the beauty of Star Wars is that its melodrama and silliness can coexist in the same galaxy.
As we get a flashback to Cassian’s childhood with Clem, Marxist writer Alex Billet joined us to explore all the ways in which Andor is indebted to one of the most radical and overtly political films of all time, “The Battle of Algiers”
Every week on Andorks, we ask our guest who their favorite Glup Shitto is, which allowed us to ask a very important question: does Jar Jar Binks belong in the Hague for enabling Palpatine’s rise to galactic empire?
And then our coverage of Announcement closed out with a trip to the wacky world of Niamos with comedian Josh Androsky.
You can find Andorks wherever you listen to podcasts at www.andorkspod.com, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube.
But that’s not all! We just launched a brand new Patreon where we’re taking Detours to talk about the films that inspired Andor and other Star Wars media. For our first episode, we watched The Mandalorian & Grogu, where we got to talk about the one (1) part of the movie that reminded us of Andor, with the reference to playing cards depicting America’s enemies in the War on Terror.
It’s been such a joy getting to go on this journey with you all, and with this new Patreon we hope to be able to expand the scope of the show, with bonus episodes, early access to our episodes (meaning you can find half our Narkina 5 coverage waiting for you right now) and other ways to get involved in shaping the future of the show, even as a free member! You can check it out at www.patreon.com/andorkpod
Join us on Sunday for when we step into the Narkina prison with Andor, or should I say, Keef Girgo.
