How to get an internship?

Well I'm headed for the Geothermal congress in Calgary, I'll be volunteering there. My main goal is to secure an internship since my program requires me a 6 month period.

I'm based I'm Mexico but willing to move and I also have a year of experience.

Any tips on how to get one? So far I have been rejected everywhere I've applied for online. It was going pretty nicely with some guys in El Salvador but they've ghosted me. There's a slight chance of getting one in Mexico but the company is stuck in the 80's in terms of development and technology sooo I don't wanna gamble there.

Graduate student btw, my program is taught online, is a one year program on geothermal exploration
