What happened to LGBTQ people throughout history?

I was wondering how gay/LGBTQ people were viewed in ancient history around the world. Today there are large LGBTQ communities in many countries, but what was it like during the times of kings, empires, and ancient civilizations?

Were they accepted in some societies and punished in others? Were there any famous kings, emperors, warriors, or historical figures known to be gay or bisexual? Also, when did attitudes toward LGBTQ people start changing so much globally?
