Smart Coil still loses

Idk what it is but tge last month or so its been like a half-dozen times where I'll be reading what seems like a really good well-thought-out fic and then it gets time to deal with Coil and he's suffering setbacks or even full-on defeat by virtue of having grabbed the idiot ball. So many fics where Coil splits time and then does an operation in both timelines slightly differently except oh noes hes been thwarted by the protag in both timelines wow theyre so cool and smart and powerful for outplaying Coil.

I'd like some fics written by people who know how Coil's power works and know how he uses it. I'd like to see a Coil who seems to never take a risk unless it pays off because hes running the full risk timeline next to the played safe timeline and choosing the winner. And I'd like to see him lose anyway, despite his best efforts, despite using his power and resources and personnel intelligently.
