So this is the kitchen of my one-bedroom condo in a 1929 building. When it first opened, it was luxury apartments. There was a commercial kitchen in the basement, and the staff would bring meals up to the residents. Most of the units still have a second door leading directly to their kitchen, but it seems mine was filled in. I would love to redo this kitchen to be more period-appropriate, but I only have a very small budget, and it's hard to find source images for 1920s high-end apartment kitchens.

Other problems:

• No room for the microwave except that recycle bin cabinet.

• Open shelving above sink unusable due to cats. Needs closed cabinets.

• No other place for trash can.

• Chandelier on the left side is ugly and needs to be replaced with something more period-appropriate. (The chandelier on the right side is a 1930s milk glass chandelier. I found it at a local antique store, already rewired. I am very proud of it.)

• Flooring on the left side is also ugly and needs to go. It's a small space, so I can probably afford to splurge on something nice.

• Table and bench came with the condo and can go.

• Not sure if I should look into installing a dishwasher or not? Would help with resale value, but I also don't anticipate selling anytime soon. (Fridge and stove need to stay.)

The problem is, I am not sure where to begin. I feel like I might have to consult a designer. I guess the most obvious place to start would be replacing the open shelving, but I'm not sure if I should do that before I have a plan on how to proceed further.

Idk, what do you think?

I don't know what to do with this kitchen.
