What's going on with these thorns near the barb bracelet?

Read the title. I'm still in Act 2, and sweeping through all my pins before heading up to the Cradle.

I got the barbed bracelet, floated that little raft around, and these thorns are interactable. But I've come back, hit them some more. What's up?
