Asking campers why they weren't playing the game properly and they got mad

Okay so basically, I went on a two year break, and went back to play it. I thought it would still be the same but no! It was suddenly full of dry people who don't converse with each other anymore, and people who just camp in safe spots and don't even save others anymore. Anyways, I was recording my gameplay (even thought it was ass), and spotted a friendgroup of 3 camping up in a safe spot. I then proceeded to ask, "hey, why do y'all (big mistake for me later on) camp instead of playing the game?" and okay, the game's goal is actually to survive the nextbots, and use any means necessary, but I'm pretty sure it was an unspoken rule back then that playing the game actually meant running away, juking, and saving players downed by them, and not just sitting up perched like a bird up in some random camping spot, watching people die (like seriously, do you have fun in not moving??). Anyhow, the 3 and some other random player, started getting offended and saying "bro I wasn't camping" and started speaking rudely. And obviously, I was like "chill I didn't say it was you, but if you're offended then maybe you are..?". The other guy in the friendgroup then said "you said y'all", so obviously I corrected myself, saying "mb! I meant some of you" but mannn.. bro was still very offended. I thought that if they were actually saving people then there was no need to speak like that, right? But no, they could not let it go. I just asked a genuine question on whether or not they were just camping, and I was expecting an answer, not a whole ass argument!! it lasted like 5 and a half minutes, and yes, before you say "you can just leave" or "why did you even start an argument in the first place?", it was a question turned into an argument. I was speaking calmly, and they were simply just offended for no reason at all. After that, I left, and just went back to my hobbies in life. But I thought I wanted y'all's opinion for this though. Am I the asshole for asking a question that won't even be offending if you weren't the target audience?
