“Our forensic investigation has cleared you from involvement with the criminal syndicate, Blind Broker, Lord Palmatti”, said Vane.
“That does not let you off the hook as gross neglect and mismanagement along with a seemingly blind eye to what was going on under your nose in your house was also discovered.  That is not even including the minor houses under you along with your vassals that have gone completely unchecked.  You have 11 Honor Guard who have totally falsified their resumes and have unfettered access to you and your house.” Said Clara, “I  don’t know exactly what Lord Firentis will do with this information, I just know I will recommend the harshest non-lethal punishment available to me,  Proscription.”, Said Clara.
With that, and not allowing them to speak at all, confined them to their assigned quarters under guard.

"Rachel, I am sorry, but I will also be recommending the same punishment for house VonWinterborne. What your Brother has done has made your house forfeit all rights to its lands**,** its vassals, and its titles.. However, because you were the one to bring this corruption to light, I will personally see to it that you are exempted from this proscription. Your life and personal assets will remain your own, but House VonWinterborne's tenure as a planetary leader is over."

Rachel stood frozen as the weight of Clara’s words settled over the war room. A suffocating wave of grief and conflict tightened in her chest. She thought of her father. He was gone, but the thought of his memory being so utterly ruined—of the proud name he had spent his life maintaining being dragged into absolute disgrace. It felt like a physical blow. Yet, as she looked at Clara, the cold reality of her situation cut through the grief. Her own blood had banished her. Her own brother had actively set her up to be murdered. For a betrayal that deep, the punishment wasn't just fair; it was entirely just. The house that had birthed her had turned into a nest of vipers. Stripped of her birthright but granted her life, Rachel knew survival meant finding a new anchor in the sector. She swallowed the lump in her throat, her mind already shifting to the only logical move left on the board. She would plan to pledge her allegiance to Lord Baron Staples. If he will have me, she thought bitterly, knowing a displaced noble carried as much political baggage as they did potential value.

Clara watched Rachel closely, seeing the subtle shift in the younger woman’s posture as she absorbed the blow. Clara's heart ached for her. They were great friends, and under any other circumstances, Clara would have offered a hand to steady her. But here, in this room, her job came first. The law of the Principality demanded absolute impartiality, even if it meant dismantling the legacy of someone she cared about.

Yet, looking at the resilient spark returning to Rachel's eyes, Clara found herself having the exact same thought. House VonWinterborne was gone, but Rachel herself was a brilliant tactical mind with priceless planetary intel. There was only one man in the sector who had the power, the ambition, and the sheer audacity to take in a displaced noble of Rachel's caliber. Wyatt.  If Rachel was smart—and Clara knew she was—she would pledge herself to Lord Baron Staples. It was the only move that could keep her safe, and the only alliance that could give her a fighting chance to rebuild something from the ashes. Clara kept her face an unreadable mask of official authority, but mentally, she was already hoping Wyatt would have the wisdom to accept her.

Wyatt closed his eyes for a brief second, forcing the white-hot rage bubbling in his chest down into a dark, locked corner of his mind. As an elevated commoner, every instinct he had screamed at him to call this what it was: bureaucratic madness. But he wasn't a compost hauler or a Principality void fighter anymore. He was a Baron speaking to a Princess of the Principality. Friendship or not, the courtly mask had to stay on.

He stepped forward,  He gave a respectful bow letting all present know that official words were to follow.   When he spoke, his voice was the epitome of measured, low-born reverence, devoid of any outward hostility.

"Your Highness," Wyatt began, his tone smooth, precise, and absolute in its deference. "If I may ask your indulgence to better understand the wisdom of your words. It would seem that if the brother is the viper, removing the head fixes the nest. Rachel brought this rot to the light. Is there truly no precedent within the law and customs that would allow her to assume planetary leadership of House VonWinterborne, rather than dismantling the entire lineage?"

To anyone else in the room, Wyatt sounded like a perfectly dutiful vassal seeking enlightenment.

But Clara didn't just hear his voice.

Deep within her consciousness, Clara felt the rage in Wyatt’s heart. She saw a man defending a friend with little understanding of the bigger picture..   Wyatt was playing the part of the respectful Baron flawlessly, but in the private theater of Clara's mind, his true emotions were screaming.

Clara maintained her steady gaze, but internally, she braced herself against the psychic pressure radiating from him. The raw, hot friction of Wyatt's hidden fury brushed against her mind—a storm of protective indignation and common-sense frustration. She didn't blame him. In fact, beneath her royal mask, a matching knot of sorrow and anger tightened in her own chest. She loathed that the cold machinery of statecraft forced her to dismantle her friend's heritage.

But as she looked from Wyatt's rigidly polite posture back to Rachel, a sudden, electric spark of excitement as she thought once more of Rachel pledging herself to Wyatt,  an idea that she knew Wyatt’s straightforward mind hadn’t even begun to conceive. It was a masterstroke that would save Rachel, elevate Wyatt, and beautifully temper the very rage he was harboring.

"Your inquiry is noted, Baron Staples, and your desire for a practical solution is understood," Clara replied, her voice smooth, formal, and carrying the absolute weight of her station. "However, the law of the Principality is unyielding on this matter. A House is not merely a title; it is a legal and spiritual covenant of fealty. When the head of that House commits high treason, the bloodline is deemed corrupted. To allow Rachel to simply step into her brother’s seat would be to seed a broken foundation. House VonWinterborne must fall. The ledger requires it."

She paused, letting the finality of the law hang in the air for a moment before she turned her gaze intentionally back to Wyatt. The corners of her mouth softened, just a fraction, into the ghost of a knowing smile.

"But while a House may end, the worth of an individual does not," Clara continued, her tone shifting slightly, dropping a calculated crumb for the Baron to find. "The sector is entering a dangerous era, Baron. A leader with newly granted territories would be incredibly wise to secure a brilliant tactical mind—someone intimately familiar with the logistics and vulnerabilities of our planetary systems. Such an alliance would not only protect a displaced noble, but it would provide a rising Barony with the exact leverage it needs to secure its future. The high courts do not forbid a loyal Noble from pledging their fealty to a new patron."

Wyatt stood entirely still, his hands still clasped firmly behind his back, but the suffocating pressure of his anger began to recede from the room like a pulling tide. In Clara’s mind, the sharp, jagged friction of his fury smoothed out, replaced by a sudden, quiet stillness as his pragmatic mind processed the pieces she had just laid out for him.

He hadn't understood the archaic poetry of "corrupted bloodlines," but he understood assets. He understood leverage. And most importantly, he understood what it meant to protect someone who had been cast out. Looking at Rachel, then back to Clara, the sheer tactical genius of the move clicked into place. Clara wasn't destroying Rachel's future; she was forcing her off a sinking ship and practically shoving her onto his.

Wyatt lowered his head in a brief, genuine nod of acknowledgment. When he spoke, the forced formality was gone, replaced by the quiet, grounded tone of a commander who finally saw the whole battlefield.

"I understand, Your Highness," Wyatt said, his voice carrying a newfound weight of respect—not just for her title, but for her wisdom. "The old foundation is broken. You cannot rebuild a house on rotten timber, no matter how sturdy the remaining pillars are. It has to come down."

He turned his body fully toward Rachel, his expression softening as he looked at her. "But as you said... individual worth remains. If House VonWinterborne is over, then its obligations are dissolved." He took a step closer to her, extending a hand. "The frontier is a dangerous place to navigate alone, Rachel. If you are looking for a new anchor—and a Barony that could desperately use a mind like yours to manage the logistics of its new territories—my door is open. I would be honored to accept your fealty."

Rachel blinked, a brief flicker of astonishment crossing her face before the sheer weight of what had just transpired sank in. She had gone into this room prepared for execution or total ruin; instead, she had been handed a lifeline by the very people she thought would destroy her.

Without a moment's hesitation, she stepped forward and bowed deeply, lowering her head in a gesture of profound, unreserved reverence.

"I accept, Baron Staples," Rachel said, her voice steady and echoing with absolute conviction. "From this moment on, my life, my loyalty, and every scrap of tactical knowledge I possess belong to you and House Staples. Your enemies are my enemies. I will help you secure your new territories, and I swear to serve your barony with the honor my birth house abandoned." With that said, Rachel walked over to stand slightly behind and to the right of Wyatt.

The air in the Noirnavio's tactical war room grew still as the sprawling, multi-planetary network grid condensed. Silas Finch waved his hand, and the holo-table isolated a single, pulsating cluster of data: Vespera. The surrounding sector systems, previously lit up like a blood-red roadmap, faded into cool, unlinked blue.

"We have successfully parsed the deep-data dump from the Warehouse 44 raid," Silas Finch began, his voice calm but laden with the gravity of his findings. "While our initial fears of a system-wide collapse were premature, the reality on the ground here on Vespera is damning."

Cypher stepped forward, his slate synchronizing with the centralized display. The holographic Vespera Spire glowed, with lines of data constricting around its lower and mid-levels.

"The Blind Broker’s operation is surgically localized," Cypher stated. "We have definitively traced the financial trails of all minor and major criminal activity on the planet. They all bottleneck through a single point: Warehouse 44. Every local theft ring, every vice den, and every smuggling route within Vespera's orbital lanes was paying tithe to Aris Thorne’s organization. The Broker doesn't have an empire across the sector; he has a stranglehold on this specific world."

Jincho leaned over the table, his avian features settling into what could be interpreted as a  sharp, focused grin,  tapped the console. The holo-display highlighted a direct, heavily encrypted communication link punching through Vespera's upper atmosphere  And here is how the Broker gets the goods off-world," Jincho chirped, his feathers bristling with intent. "They used the stolen flight manifests and unique codes delivered by Lieutenant Paulbrook, Angus VonWinterborne, and others to circumvent planetary security. The Broker was not just coordinating local chaos. They also  established a dedicated, single communication avenue. We’ve confirmed the encryption ciphers. Data chits were being sold directly to known Drazzan Imperium deep-space handlers containing only one thing. The Drazzan don't care about our politics or our corporate credits. They were buying the exact coordinates, transport schedules, and defense vulnerabilities of Sapient “ cattle” moving through this sector. Angus was selling out living cargo to our greatest external enemy just to clear his name, although there is no evidence he was aware of his complicity in that."

Amara’s shimmering blue avatar stabilized on the far side of the table, illuminating a tactical display of the border regions. "This external threat is further secured by localized force," Amara reported, her synthesized voice smooth but cold. "Our analysis of the debris and comms logs from Rachel's shuttle confirms that the Pirate Vanguard group was acting as an independent  contractor, not in direct cooperation with the Drazzan, paid in advance by Angus VonWinterborne. The pirates were not random raiders but were captured by the Drazzan in a separate contracted abduction. It is still not clear how the Drazzan compensated the Blind Broker for the information they received. This is due to there not being any communication between The Blind Broker and the Drazzan since your elimination of the Drazzan on Haego. That avenue of investigation has gone too cold.”

Silas Finch gestured, expanding the view of the Vespera Spire to highlight the upper levels. Various noble house sigils pulsed with faint, alarming traces of red, but only one stood entirely consumed by the crimson glow. "Finally, Your Highness, we must address the issue of the local nobility," Silas continued, folding his hands. "The data we recovered gives us a clear perspective. It is true that the 'Ledger Trap' run by The Bookie has infected many of Vespera's high houses. Blackmail and debt have created dozens of minor compromised nodes in the government. However," he said, tapping a clear visual comparison line between the houses, "it is not an infection of equal degree. House VonWinterborne wasn't merely compromised; they were fully assimilated. Angus handed over the keys to the entire orbital defense network. Other houses, while weak and susceptible, were only providing minor favors. Your decision to isolate VonWinterborn was correct, Princess. The rest of the houses have rot, but they are still structure. Angus was the termite trying to tear the whole building down."

Silas Finch stepped back to the console, tapping a sequence that split the holographic display into two primary operational theaters: the swirling blue sphere of Vespera’s landmass and the flashing geometric orbit of the armored casino dreadnought above. "The data is locked, and the trails are verified," Silas said, looking over at Princess Clara and Baron Wyatt Staples. "But mapping the tumor is only half the battle. If we don’t strike every node simultaneously, the Blind Broker will pull the plug, purge the master ledger, and vanish."

Captain Milkades stepped up to the edge of the table, his casual demeanor completely gone, replaced by the sharp, focused energy of a marine ready to deploy. "We have one shot at a clean sweep," he said, looking at the assembled team. "Here is how we split our pieces on the board."  Milkadies tapped the orbital theater, highlighting the flashing layout of the casino dreadnought.   "We need eyes on the inside before the outer hulls are breached, or they’ll dump the data servers into the vacuum," Milkadies explained. "Nico and Myra will insert first, posing as eccentric, high-rolling guests from the inner systems. Their job is simple: blend into the high-stakes tables, monitor the primary security layout, and act as our anchors on the floor."  He shifted the display to the VIP backrooms. "For the inner sanctum, we leverage Aida. As a humanoid alien Cat woman, she can slip past their standard background sweeps by embedding herself as an exotic dancer in the elite lounges. Her agility and natural assets will let her get close to the executive terminals without raising a single alarm. The moment she or the high-rollers locate the Bookie’s master terminal, they tip the signal.   Nico and Myra will pretend to be confused about what is happening, leading the Broker security forces to turn their backs on them where they can then flank the enemy when they feel the need is greatest.  Aida will maintain her state of confusion and not engage in the assault as she will be the most vulnerable of us.  Her job will have been completed before the violence even starts.”

Agent Crisper stepped forward, his eyes fixed on the orbital entry vectors. "Once Aida and the guests confirm the server locations, the heavy armor moves in," Crisper stated, his voice level and clinical. "I will lead the direct boarding action alongside Milkades. We are bringing a core first of  5 additional Royal Marines.  Amalia, Levison, Galko, Varro and Mirella will be with us.   .   We execute a dark-hull breach directly into the casino’s server rooms. No warnings, no negotiations. Five marines will secure the perimeter and keep the syndicate enforcers pinned down while Milkades and I and the rest of the marines execute a Layer Three extraction on the command staff to secure the master encryption keys."

Rachel VonWinterborne leaned over the table, her gaze locked onto the lower transit levels of her home world.  "The ground targets are where the operational variables get dangerous," Rachel noted, pointing to Warehouse 44. "Inspector Vane knows the physical grid better than anyone, but we have a massive security bottleneck. Our forensic dive proves that local law enforcement on Vespera has been structurally infiltrated by the Broker's ledger traps."   "Which means the local precincts are completely off the table,"

Wyatt Staples grunted, his pragmatic commoner intellect cutting straight to the logistics. "If we use a single local channel, the Broker gets a tip-off before Vane even opens his gun locker."

"Exactly," Crisper agreed. "Therefore, local law enforcement will be kept entirely in the dark until the operation is over. Cynthia will command the ground assault along with Attucio, Killa, Mertu, Gaston, Irving and Montero on a coordinated strike on Warehouse 44.  Vane will go with Cynthia as local support. Vivian, Jericho, and Vastal will infiltrate house VonWinterborne.   We are deploying the heavy gunships and armored squads directly from our own bay  to every minor noble node simultaneously, detaining the compromised honor guards and severing the Broker's ground network before they realize the sky is falling."

“Do not endanger yourselves by trying to keep those opposed to you alive, if any give fight, end them,” said Clara, reminding everyone why she is called the Reaper.

The holographic display pulsed in unison, tying the ground vectors and orbital insertion paths into a single, ticking countdown clock.   Silas Finch looked around the war room, his hand hovering over the deployment sequence. "Two targets, one clock. The moment the Princess gives the word, we go live-fire."
