How to grow on X with no followers in 2026 (founder's guide)

X Growth Tips

Most "grow on X" advice assumes you already have a few thousand followers. This is for the harder start: you're a builder or founder, you post genuinely good stuff, and it lands on nobody.

The mistake almost everyone makes is treating X like LinkedIn. On LinkedIn a good post gets pushed to your network on dwell time, so quality alone can carry a small account. X doesn't do that. With no network graph, the algorithm has almost nobody to show your post to, so you get single-digit impressions no matter how good the post is.

So the order of operations from zero is backwards from what feels natural:

  1. Replies first, posts second. Your replies under bigger accounts are your distribution. A sharp reply on a post doing 50k views puts you in front of 50k of the right people. Your own post puts you in front of roughly your follower count, which is zero.

  2. Pick your 15-20. Find accounts your exact ICP already follows. Turn on post notifications. Reply inside the first 20-30 minutes while the post is still being served.

  3. Make replies add something. A counterpoint, a specific example, a number. "Great thread" gets ignored. A reply that stands on its own gets profile clicks.

  4. Post 2-3x a week, not daily. From zero, daily posting just spreads your thin engagement thinner.

  5. Treat the first hour as the whole game. X decides a post's fate fast. Warm audience engages early, it goes wider. If not, it dies.

The uncomfortable truth: for the first month or two you're a commenter who occasionally posts, not a poster. Once you've got a few hundred of the right followers from replies, your posts start landing on their own.

What follower count did your own posts start getting real reach at? Curious where the tipping point was for people here.
