Thunderstorms in the Sierra?

Hi! So I finally got a free day off after months and got in the car to drive to Parker Lake (I look forward to this hike every year and really wanted to see it today with the snowcaps) for a day hike. 1/3 of the way there I realized the NOAA forecast called for an isolated thunderstorm. Idk why but I got spooked and (dejectedly) drove back. Tomorrow calls for no storms but high winds, up to 30mph gusts.

My questions are:

  1. Whether I was being *too* cautious? Reason being my free time nowadays is quite limited, so I want to be able to go when I can, provided it’s really safe. I know scattered and intense storms are a solid no-go, but how do you all feel about isolated?
  2. Advisable to hike with high winds? Might have a day off tomorrow for a re-do.

I’m quite used to the Sierra and have done many hikes there over the past 20 years, both group and solo. But for some reason when I hike solo I tend to be ultra cautious because I have a healthy respect for how quick things can turn ugly. Not looking to be a SAR candidate. I’m mostly a day hiker and even on overnights have never dealt with any inclement weather. Def looking for insight/tips from seasoned backpackers and hikers who deal with this stuff on the trail more than I do.
