Do you agree that Diablo 2 changed a lot for gaming as a whole?
I know this is probably obvious to many people here, but I’ve been thinking about how much Diablo 2 actually brought to video games, not just ARPGs.
The loot chase, builds, trading, farming bosses, ladder seasons, runewords, rare drops that people remember for years, and that feeling of “just one more run” all became such a huge part of gaming culture.
A lot of modern games still feel like they are chasing the same addictive loop Diablo 2 nailed decades ago. Even when games are completely different genres, you can still see pieces of its influence in how they handle loot, progression, rarity, and replayability.
Do you think Diablo 2 is one of the most influential games ever made, or is its impact mostly important within the ARPG genre?
