NYC to UK: Strategy Check

Looking for a quick sanity check on my flight strategy for next summer.

I have a trip planned from NYC to either London Heathrow or Edinburgh next July with our family (myself, my wife, and our one-year-old).
Our current plan is to book Comfort Plus tickets now to secure bulkhead seats, so we can use a bassinet.
The goal is to hold these bookings but keep an eye out for Delta One or Premium Select award space opening up for our dates next summer. If a good points deal pops up, such as what I am seeing currently, we would upgrade via points.

Does this approach make sense, or would it not be possible?
