Tricks and turns - how important are they?
I doubt theres a hard and fast rule on this, just interested in seeing if there is
a general consensus out there on this.
Do you need tricks in a routine in order to be competitive? Does the level and or amount of tricks one has define their level of dancing?
Can you be a “good dancer” without having say an Ariel and a leg hold under your belt?
What exactly constitutes a trick? Is it just the flips and headstands etc or is there a point where an abundance of turns and overflow of twisting jumps crosses into that that territory?
(I do know that the turns and jumps are technically considered dancing elements, but when the whole routine is essentially a series of turns and a display of your ability to get your foot behind your head, does that cross into trick territory?
Genuinely curious.
(And certainly not knocking those with fab flexibility either! Just wondering why judges always say that tricks aren’t that important to them scoring wise and yet…)
Would love to hear your thoughts?
