Impact of air resistance - SUVAT
Hi all,
Please see below the details of a question:
A ball, from rest, is dropped from a vertical height of h metres above the a horizontal surface.
After 4 seconds the ball’s height above the Earth’s surface is 0.2h metres.
By ignoring air resistance, show that h=10g
I was successfully able to demonstrate that h=10g
If it were to be considered, explain the effect that air resistance would have on the value of h in h=10g
This is where I am confused. My understanding is that the ball would not fall as quickly, and the acceleration due to gravity would be limited due to air resistance, this would therefore mean that g would be a smaller value, and therefore h would yield a smaller value.
What I am confused on is context. If h is the vertical height in metres above ground after 4 seconds, then surely we would expect h to be a higher figure because it would not have travelled as far from its release point, and would be further from the ground than in the original model.
