Trans history is fascinating!

Encouragement

My fiancé is trans and I'm very autistic so I really like comprehensive data and human behaviour is one of my hobbies (strange hobby but people are so unique and different it's interesting to learn the how's and why).

You will all know a load more than me and or maybe you want to learn like I do on how trans people and gender in general has been so fluid throughout history, culture and country.

So my little side goal at the moment is to try get a good comprehensive list of any and all the information I can find and maybe see if I can get a bit of traction for it in the space to bring some well needed education to people.

I know that there's no reasoning or educating some people, due to many factors like religion, politics or generally being a cuntness. I just hope that it reaches people in some way to help towards a bigger acceptance or to help people thinking they're alone and that it's not right to feel the way they do. It might not do much, go anywhere or not progress and I'll end up forgetting about it (ADHD brain go brrrrrrrr) but I want to try.

This isn't a comprehensive list of what I have so far, it's a work in progress which I'll be adding to as I go along but please if you have any information, a discussion, corrections and input please comment or private message me if you're more comfortable with that!

As a little side note.

I'm just a regular dude, I'm not affiliated with anything or anyone. I don't belong to an organisation nor do I hold any strong beliefs.

I just want to say that I see you. Each and every one you. You are so unique and incalculably important to, not just only the people around you, but to everyone that is sharing this tiny fragment of time that will be just a spec in the endless expanse and I'm really glad and happy that everyone of you get to exist at the same time as me, for all your different perspectives and the story each and everyone of you will unfold.

Thank you for being here, for being you, thank you for making this time we share the best time that I could have ended up in.

Now to the list so far!

If there's any incorrect terminology or derogatory stuff please let me know so I can edit it! I've just pulling from different sources so mistakes are going to happen.

For ease at the moment, I'm only putting brief descriptions and a general origin point for location which I'll add in more details as I go to narrow down specifics. A lot of history is usually through a lens of the victor/persecutor so I'm trying to find more concrete information as I go to build them, not as a historical/cultural blip, but into real tangible people because they were and are just that, people.

If anyone who belongs to the specific cultures/country/people please let me have any and all information as it's truly invaluable.

The Hijras - India/

which were criminalised by the British empire in 1871. They had been part of history since 400 BCE. They served in many important roles and are connected to the Divine (Deva)

The Native Americans.

Lots of different tribes have a third gender which is now been adopted as "two spirit" which only adopted the name due to the French "berdache" being derogatory. This has been a long standing thing for Native Americans and is found in many different tribes throughout history.

Fa'afafine - Samoa.

Very heavy spiritual and traditional function and still serves a major leadership function for modern day Samoa.

Mahū - Hawaii.

They were/are very respected and serve very important functions in society and are the keepers of cultural traditions/teachers.

Wakashu - Japan.

The stage between male adulthood and childhood. Seen as a third gender in which men and women would have relationships with the Wakashu.

However the cultural difference is that this was mandated and all encompassing so, whilst it would not be in the same sense as someone transitioning by choice, it's still an important part of how culture views gender roles outside of Western influences.

Kathoey - Thailand.

Everyone knows the Thai lady boys, they've been there since before 1298. Rooted in Buddhism (Which has 4 genders) served as shamans and highly important spiritual figures.

Galli - Ancient Rome.

Whilst Roman society didn't accept them or accommodate them fully, they served as respected and a vital religious component especially.

Chibados - Angola.

Found within the Kingdom of Ndongo, they were seen as very important spiritual arbiter's. They were able to marry men which were looked upon as highly honoured.

Mudoko Dako - Uganda.

Ashtime - Ethiopia.
