Pennsylvania electric utilities increase rates June 1 -- alternative options available

Unaffordable Bills

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission reminded ratepayers that electric utility companies were increasing their rates on June 1. Rates are increasing by anywhere from 1% to 20%.

Small businesses will also see their service rates increase as much as 17% in certain utility service territories, such as PECO, UGI Electric and Penelec.

The PUC reminds ratepayers that they have options to shop for since Pennsylvania has a competitive electricity market. Those that shop for their electricity and are already locked into a price agreement with their competitive electric supplier will not see an increase to the supply portion of their bill. Pennsylvanians that aren't shopping, but wanted to find cheaper supply prices and more innovative products or long-term price certainty, can visit this shopping guide to learn more.
