Debt Collection Question
Hello,
I just received a letter for debt collection and I have a few questions.
For context, I had a hospital bill back in December that I have been fighting to have them reconsider with my insurance. Per the hospital, my bill for that visit and the amount owed after insurance was somewhere around $800. However, this debt collection letter I received states an amount of over $1300. I submitted an online inquiry with the debt collector to ask for the name and address of the original creditor. But I'm just a bit scared and wondering what I can do?
My understanding is that debt typically shows up on a credit report. I'm not sure if this $1300 has been sent to collections yet, as I don't see anything on my Experian credit report. Wondering how I should proceed. I haven't dealt with anything like this before and I'm worried about how this debt will affect me. I do have barely enough in savings to take care of this, but I really don't want to use that money as it's been my emergency fund. Any advice is appreciated. I'm young and still figuring this all out.
