How do we love our neighbors?
I’m a new Christian, I started going to church in October and I was baptized this past Saturday.
One of the things I’m struggling with is loving everybody, no matter how they treat me. I find it easy to forgive some people, but very difficult to forgive others.
I’ve been working on my bitterness and anger and feel I’ve made a lot of improvement, but still find myself getting angry and irritated at things.
For example, yesterday I woke up in a bad mood. Everything was irritating me, even my cat rubbing against my legs was overstimulating. At work I struggled to remain patient and calm. Driving home, I was annoyed with other drivers tailgating and driving aggressively. When walking my dog, a car came driving very quickly down the alley and I gave them a hard look. They stopped their car, reversed, and started yelling at me “what are you looking at, fat b*tch, I’ll f*ck you up”.
I went inside and turned to the Bible, read Ephesians 4, and prayed for the strength to release the grip that bitterness has on me.
Why am I so worried about others and their effect on me? I feel a lot better today but still struggling with loving those who treat others poorly.
Do I reflect on my own mistakes, and forgive myself as I should forgive them? If I forgive my moments of losing my cool then I should forgive them in their weak moment, as the Lord has forgiven all of our sins.
