Reporting income growing up & Urban area
Good morning!
I had two hopefully short questions if that is okay that I could not find answers to for my AMCAS application:
-
Reporting family income for the first 18 years - I have kind of a unique situation. My father is a physician earning approx 200k and my mother is a preschool teacher earning between 30-45k per year. My parents got divorced when I was 9 and since then I lived and was claimed exclusively under my mother. I would prefer to report that my household income was in that lower level, but do not want to be dishonest in my reporting. I speak in my activities and personal statement about my family facing financial struggles, which was certainly the case, but I am concerned if I report that I had a household income of 250k they would raise flags.
-
Classification of my hometown - I grew up in an agricultural city in Maryland, which is about 45 minutes north of any major city. I discuss in my personal statement about living in a rural environment and what that means for healthcare, yet medically I do not think we are underserved. While there is a very limited number of primary care proiders, we are within a 1- 1.5 hour drive to multiple top of the line hospitals, including York Hospital in PA and Johns Hopkins. I am concerned that this would raise a flag on admissions, especially in Maryland, if I discuss how living in a more rural area has larger implications if I am as close as I am to major medical networks.
Thank you all for your time!
