Reaper for Instruments

Is reaper a good DAW for making live instrument music like plugging guitars and vocals into an audio interface and stuff? And if so what's some good free plugins to download onto my computer for it (amps, effects, etc)? I have actual pedals but don't know how to use those on an interface into a DAW if someone could explain,
