The Trump administration is reportedly in advanced talks to directly fund American drone manufacturers as part of a much larger push to scale domestic drone production.

At first glance this looks like a defense-tech story.

But honestly, I think it’s also a copper and critical minerals story.

Modern drones are extremely metal-intensive systems. They rely on:

* copper wiring
* electric motors
* battery systems
* thermal management
* power electronics
* AI processing hardware

And now the Pentagon reportedly wants to massively expand U.S. drone manufacturing capacity, including plans tied to hundreds of thousands of low-cost autonomous systems.

That matters because the market is already dealing with copper supply stress:

* Chilean production issues
* declining ore grades
* smelter bottlenecks
* rising AI infrastructure demand
* grid expansion demand

Which is partly why junior copper explorers keep getting more attention.

One name I keep watching is NovaRed Mining (NRED.CN / NREDF).

The company controls roughly 16,078 hectares at its Wilmac Copper-Gold Project in British Columbia’s Quesnel porphyry belt, around 10 km west of Hudbay’s Copper Mountain Mine.

Some of the technical indicators already outlined by the company include:

* copper-in-soil values up to 1,125 ppm Cu
* interpreted intrusive centers
* pipe-like porphyry targets
* historical 3DIP/AMT anomalies
* 2026 geophysics planning

Obviously still early-stage exploration. No mine. No resource yet.

But if the U.S. is serious about scaling AI systems, autonomous drones and domestic defense manufacturing, then future copper supply becomes even more important than it already was.

And that’s exactly where speculative BC copper explorers start entering the conversation.

The U.S. Drone Push Is Bigger Than Drones. It’s Another Copper Story.
