5 ton variable speed
We had a 5-ton Carrier Infinity AC and 2-stage furnace installed yesterday. Came from a 5-ton Goodman first generation 2-stage AC that was 19 years old. Our old unit still worked fine - but felt we were pushing our luck and wanted to change it out on our schedule, not in a panic. :)
Contractors spent from 9am to 6pm working. 2 guys, very happy with their work. Forced them to drink water several times - freaking attics are way too hot.
It was mid 90s and sunny yesterday. Unit was brought online around 5:30. I have an Emporia Vue so can watch the energy consumption in realtime. The compressor slowly increased wattage over a 30 second timeframe to about 65% capacity. Ramped up over the next 5-10 mins to full at around 4,500watts. Insanely quiet. Then over the next few hours it caught the house up and was slowly ramping down. Cannot get over how quiet both the indoor and outdoor units are. The outdoor unit is just outside our main bedroom wall. We used to hear the loud clunk of the old unit turning on. Cannot tell when it turns on and even at full speed its barely detectable through the wall.
One of the things that I dont want to need - but happy it is available - is that our trifuel inverter genset that handles 7200w running on nat gas can actually run this thing (the plan in an outage is to actually set it to a 70% capacity limit via the thermostat) to give plenty of headroom. We were ar a whole home load of under 5,500watts yesterday when it was running full speed (AC, lights, all other things like internet, routers, etc running - but not running any appliances like a coffee maker, elec dryer [heatpump, ventless]). Our old Goodman could not run from generator due to high inrush and no soft starter. Aanyhow - just excited about the new unit and my wife doesnt care about this stuff. LOL!
