Psychology books that explain how scammers think and behave
I'm looking for a book that explores the mindset and psychology of tourist scammers, hustlers, and street sellers you often encounter when visiting a new country or city.
I'm fascinated by how they think and operate: how they get people to buy things at absurdly inflated prices, convince tourists to pay for things that are normally free, pull people into conversations they never wanted to have, or use seemingly friendly gestures to create a sense of obligation.
For example, someone offers to take your photo, grabs your phone, takes a few pictures, and then starts insisting on payment. Or they hand you a "free" item and suddenly demand money. What interests me most is the psychology behind it all, how they identify targets, apply pressure, overcome resistance, and why these tactics work so often.
I'd also love to understand why many of these people can use the same tricks every day, in the same location, for years, and still find new victims.
