Translated a shareholder meeting transcript from a Tokyo-listed fintech and they're building a full crypto treasury division
A friend who works in Japanese equity research sent me the transcript from a recent shareholder Q&A session of a mid-cap fintech listed on the TSE. The CEO confirmed they're creating an entire digital asset management arm, not just holding BTC on balance sheet like the MicroStrategy copycats.
What caught me off guard was the hire. They poached a former compliance director from one of the top three Japanese exchanges, someone who apparently shepherded two separate token listings on Binance. That's a very specific skillset and it signals they're not just dabbling.
The plan according to the transcript is to issue their own token by Q1 next year and pursue a Binance listing. A publicly traded company going through the full token issuance pipeline while being subject to JFSA oversight. That hasn't happened before.
If this works it basically creates a regulatory template for every other listed company in Japan sitting on the fence. The compliance guy's track record is the part that makes me think they might actually pull it off.
