Please excuse typos, grammar, and all general mistakes as I’ve typed this out now three times, it’s a long story also so I’ve done best to shorten but keep details. Thanks!
Brevard county Fl
LANndlord leased me a home, the first month I was unable to live there for three weeks do to extremely severe spider infestation. The worst I’ve ever witnessed. I was assured it was bc the home was empty for a year prior. He pro exterminated, yet did not deduct anything from rent. Dec was the next month, and was freezing cold no heat or insulation in home I stayed in home payed rent for two cold months. Feb came and I noticed ticks, EVERYWHERE! Mostly in the shower. I have a short video. So I fled in the night in terror and slept in hotels, stayed at my abusive ex bfs and in my car for the next 6 weeks. AND STILL PAYED RENT! He pro exterminated again, after week 6. Yet the issue persist, so I learned it was from no barrier under subfloor, no insulation, and not properly forming the foundation that lead to a VECTOR infestation which caused the TICKS! the house sat empty for a year prior, so if you know about vector… that’s upwards of 1000 rats by the end of that year.
So I fixed the foundation from the vector being able to enter on my own and suffered cuts ect. He only credited me for the materials!!! I still couldn’t live there! And asked about the rent when it came due the following month, so I payed it. And was only one day behind the schedule day and offered to pay late fee. Then bc I was coming out of abusive relationship, and had been displaced, incurred costs from that and slept in car ect ect. It was extremely emotionally taxing being back at my exes where I had nearly died literally 7 x. However, bc of these details, I had exhausted my finances, including materials and time spent working on the house, I didn’t have options… so I asked if I could put the insulation and the barrier under the subfloor to make it habitable. Which is a severe risk to health with nesting of vector. Ect. He approved and told me that I can deduct THE COST OF MATERIALS! Although, labor being preformed, me having to STILL FIND SOMEWHERE TO LIVE WHILE ITS BEING DONE. Ect. And he asked about rent this month… 7thmonth now, I’ve paid 5 1/2 mo. (Only one month unpaid going on 7th, have been unlivable entire time, only lived in 2 months)
The agreement for work started at the 5 1/2 I was disgusted after he said just the materials. I’m saving this man thousands in repairs even if he counted labor. and several code violations fire hazard ect. And am not able to live in it until done. Plus the fact I’ve only stayed inside two months. Everything I own is in that house. With ticks with rats with mice. With mites. I’ve seen them everywhere, droppings right under my gd bed where I slept excuse me naked. I’m traumatized, displaced, and now fear that I’ve lost everything I own because the furniture is likely infested and contaminated with dropping or urine which is serious threat to health sometimes terminally. I first moved there thinking I had made it out alive, I escaped and could start over again. And now I’m back (at my exes—the house of strangle) and all I have is my car. I’d like to sue him, he won’t refund me, honestly I’m so upset with him I cannot talk to him like a mature adult, so I would prefer the housing authority or lawyer contacted him. Yet I am unsure of what procedures, or resources are available to me? I live in Brevard county fl. I have a short video of ticks, texts about the spiders, pictures of droppings, texts about not being able to live there due to this, pictures of exposed wires and overall unlivable condition of home and copies showing my rent payments. The photos are of underneath home with weeds and debris littering underneath, the “skirting” having gaping holes leaving access for vector, the roof having missing trianglular section exposing home, the subfloor of entire home wide open to nature!
However from above or outside and inside it looks freshly updated new appliances, clean and appeared perfectly fine… from a woman’s perspective, and likely the majority of the population would’ve agreed, sans the health dept, code enforcement or a general contractor. Also I’m sure he knew, rent was ridiculously inexpensive, I joked I didn’t know how he was making a profit of the property.
Thank you for taking the time to read this response, I appreciate your expertise and understanding of matters like these. I will check back before noon. 🙏
