Help- smelly clothes

My husband is an active guy with good hygiene but his running clothes, golf shirts, and even casual shirts start to get smelly. It doesn’t smell like BO it is more of a sharp acidic smell- like yoghurt. It seems to be the clothes and not him as the scent stays with the clothes when he takes them off.

New clothes don’t smell like this only after he has worn them awhile. We use Tide and even ordered some special detergent for athletic wear. Now I’ve noticed some of my shirts are starting to smell slightly this way- may be I’ve been nose blind and they have always been stinky. Any suggestions?
