[Hello]( https://tenor.com/view/karlee-girl-karlee-right-back-right-back-aye-fuck-it-up-aye-gif-17856186901030706135) and welcome to the **K-Pop 2025 Essentials Rate!** Us hosts ( u/Away_Peak1789 and u/FreeCuddlesAnyone ) are excited to host the 5th annual K-Pop yearly review rate. For those not in the know, we had three winners by artists with three tracks in their rate for the first three K-Pop Essentials. That trend was broken last year by winner **aespa – Supernova**! (Although technically, only Karina broke it because she was in four songs in that rate). So this year is anyone’s rate to win. Let’s meet our contenders in 2025’s list of Essentials^TM.

To continue the trend from the odd numbered 2023 K-Pop Essentials, we hosts have chosen four title tracks tracks we deemed to deserve some love outside of their fandoms ~~(or better said we payola’d them in lmao)~~. Two male representative (Big Ocean and CLOSE YOUR EYES) and two female representative (Kep1er and Yerin Baek). Who will win this bonus rate?
# **But... where's this group or that song? Why is x in over y? [etc.]?**
The main goal when curating the selection was to create a list of the most notable releases by K-Pop acts that catered to r/popheads' interests and taste. To determine whether a song should be included, multiple metrics, including local (Korean) and international success, streaming numbers, "... of the year" lists, acclaim from critics and online fan spaces, relevance in the sub, etc. were used. We also wanted to have a broad and diverse lineup that represented as many acts as possible, but given the competitive and fast-paced nature of the K-Pop industry, not everyone could be included, unfortunately. The reason why your robbed fave was excluded is likely either 1) the act was already well-represented in the rate or 2) it didn't do well enough in the metrics to replace any of the songs currently in the lineup.
If you’re already familiar with rate rules and can’t wait to get started, feel free to skip the rest of this post and send your ballot using **[THIS LINK](https://old.reddit.com/message/compose?to=Away\_Peak1789%0A&subject=Type%20the%20subject%20of%20the%20message%20here&message=Username%3A%20%0A%0Aaespa%20-%20Dirty%20Work%3A%0A%0Aaespa%20-%20Rich%20Man%3A%0A%0AAHOF%20-%20Rendezvous%3A%0A%0AALLDAY%20PROJECT%20-%20FAMOUS%3A%0A%0AARTMS%20-%20Icarus%3A%0A%0AATEEZ%20-%20In%20Your%20Fantasy%3A%0A%0AATEEZ%20-%20Lemon%20Drop%3A%0A%0ABABYMONSTER%20-%20HOT%20SAUCE%3A%0A%0ABLACKPINK%20-%20JUMP%3A%0A%0ABOYNEXTDOOR%20-%20I%20LOVE%20YOU%3A%0A%0ACHUNG%20HA%20-%20STRESS%3A%0A%0ACHUU%20-%20Kiss%20a%20kitty%3A%0A%0ACORTIS%20-%20FaSHioN%3A%0A%0ACORTIS%20-%20GO!%3A%0A%0ADAYOUNG%20-%20body%3A%0A%0AENHYPEN%20-%20Bad%20Desire%20%28With%20or%20Without%20You%29%3A%0A%0Afromis\_9%20-%20LIKE%20YOU%20BETTER%3A%0A%0AHearts2Hearts%20-%20FOCUS%3A%0A%0AHearts2Hearts%20-%20STYLE%3A%0A%0AHearts2Hearts%20-%20The%20Chase%3A%0A%0AHUNTR%2FX%20-%20Golden%3A%0A%0AHUNTR%2FX%20-%20How%20It's%20Done%3A%0A%0AHWASA%20-%20Good%20Goodbye%3A%0A%0Ai-dle%20-%20Good%20Thing%3A%0A%0Aifeye%20-%20r%20u%20ok%3F%3A%0A%0AILLIT%20-%20Billyeon%20Gojangi%20%28Do%20The%20Dance%29%3A%0A%0AILLIT%20-%20jellyous%3A%0A%0AILLIT%20-%20NOT%20CUTE%20ANYMORE%3A%0A%0AITZY%20-%20Girls%20Will%20Be%20Girls%3A%0A%0AIVE%20-%20ATTITUDE%3A%0A%0AIVE%20-%20REBEL%20HEART%3A%0A%0Aj-hope%20-%20Killin'%20It%20Girl%20%28feat.%20GloRilla%29%3A%0A%0AJEON%20SOMI%20-%20CLOSER%3A%0A%0AKAI%20-%20Wait%20On%20Me%3A%0A%0AKATSEYE%20-%20Gabriela%3A%0A%0AKATSEYE%20-%20Gnarly%3A%0A%0AKiiiKiii%20-%20I%20DO%20ME%3A%0A%0ALE%20SSERAFIM%20-%20HOT%3A%0A%0ALE%20SSERAFIM%20-%20SPAGHETTI%20%28feat.%20j-hope%29%3A%0A%0AMEOVV%20-%20HANDS%20UP%3A%0A%0ANCT%20WISH%20-%20poppop%3A%0A%0ANMIXX%20-%20Blue%20Valentine%3A%0A%0ANMIXX%20-%20High%20Horse%3A%0A%0ANMIXX%20-%20KNOW%20ABOUT%20ME%3A%0A%0AP1Harmony%20-%20DUH!%3A%0A%0ARed%20Velvet%20-%20IRENE%20%26%20SEULGI%20-%20TILT%3A%0A%0ARESCENE%20-%20Glow%20Up%3A%0A%0ARIIZE%20-%20Fly%20Up%3A%0A%0ASaja%20Boys%20-%20Soda%20Pop%3A%0A%0ASaja%20Boys%20-%20Your%20Idol%3A%0A%0ASEULGI%20-%20Baby%2C%20Not%20Baby%3A%0A%0ASEVENTEEN%20-%20THUNDER%3A%0A%0ASTAYC%20-%20BEBE%3A%0A%0AStray%20Kids%20-%20CEREMONY%3A%0A%0AStray%20Kids%20-%20Do%20It%3A%0A%0ATEN%20-%20STUNNER%3A%0A%0ATOMORROW%20x%20TOGETHER%20-%20Love%20Language%3A%0A%0AtripleS%20-%20Are%20You%20Alive%3A%0A%0ATWICE%20-%20THIS%20IS%20FOR%3A%0A%0ATWS%20-%20OVERDRIVE%3A%0A%0AXG%20-%20GALA%3A%0A%0AXLOV%20-%201%26Only%3A%0A%0AYEJI%20-%20Air%3A%0A%0AYves%20-%20Soap%20%28feat.%20PinkPantheress%29%3A%0A%0AYves%20-%20White%20cat%3A%0A%0AZEROBASEONE%20-%20ICONIK%3A%0A%0ABONUS%20TRACKS%0A%0ABig%20Ocean%20-%20ATTENTION%3A%0A%0ACLOSE%20YOUR%20EYES%20-%20X%3A%0A%0AKep1er%20-%20BUBBLE%20GUM%3A%0A%0AYerin%20Baek%20-%20MIRROR%3A%0A%0AEND%0A)\*\* - this is my (u/Away_Peak1789) account. If you ever find yourself bored, we encourage you to take advantage of the MVs! Many thanks to eke (u/curryraejepsen) for the incredible playlist cover!
If you aren't yet familiar with rates, here are the:
**Rules:**
- **You must listen and assign a score to EVERY song listed.** If your ballot is missing any scores it will not be eligible and you'll be sent a message asking you to fill in the missing scores.
- **Each song should be assigned a score between 1 to 10.** Decimals up to one point are allowed but any further is a no-no – 9.9 is fine, but 9.99 is not. Also, use periods for decimal points, no commas! This breaks the rate machine program.
- **You can use ONE 0 and ONE 11 for the entirety of the rate, for your least favorite and most favorite song respectively - they are optional but HIGHLY encouraged** if you feel some type of way about any given song! **Comments are also very encouraged** but not required for such scores.
- **Comments are encouraged and much appreciated** (but not required) and can be added to any song by simply typing after the numerical score, like so:
CHUU - Kiss a kitty: 7.5 how lesbian, good for her! **
** **This is the ONLY correct way to format a comment.** Please do not include colons (ex. 10: I stan!), dashes (ex. 1 - ?), or any other symbol after your score/before your comment as it breaks the program.
- **DO NOT SABOTAGE!** Hopefully this shouldn’t be a problem as we trust you guys (famous last words) but we reserve the right to reject your ballot + ask you to change your scores and/or leave comments, especially for scores on the low end. Ultimately, please just rate all of the songs truthfully – this will make the whole process a lot easier and more fun for everyone involved!
