Hunter 350 engine stalling/shutting off completely when pulling the clutch (Post-battery drain issue) – Need Advice!
Hello Hunters,
I’m facing a strange and honestly pretty dangerous issue with my Hunter 350 and could really use your insights before I head to the service center this weekend.
The Backstory (Battery Drain):
Last month, the bike sat parked and covered for a little over 2 weeks. When I tried to start it, it just made a tik-tik-tik sound. The battery had dropped to 10V, even though the lights, horn, and cluster worked fine. A friend helped me bump-start it in 2nd gear, I rode it for about 6 km, and the battery voltage went back to normal. The next morning, a 25 km commute to the office went perfectly fine.
The Current Issue (Engine Stalling)
The problem started on my commute back home and has been happening consistently since.
• What happens: When I pull the clutch in, the engine slowly loses power and dies.
• The trigger: It happens at least 7–8 times during a 25 km ride, especially when pulling the clutch in at speeds around 55–60 km/h or above.
• Throttling makes it worse: If I try to give it throttle the moment it starts losing power, the engine immediately shuts off completely. I have to restart it on the fly to keep moving.
• At Neutral/Idling: At traffic lights, the idle sounds incredibly weak and abnormally slow, like it’s constantly on the verge of dying. If I keep the clutch pulled in and slowly keep throttling, it stays alive, but idling in neutral feels completely off.
What I’ve Done So Far:
• Cleaned the spark plug (thinking it was a spark issue), but no change.
• The bike had its 4th service just a month before this started happening.
It feels incredibly unsafe to ride like this right now. Has anyone faced a similar issue with their Hunter or J-series engine? Could this be a faulty idle air control valve (IACV), a clogged fuel pump/injector from sitting, a bad relay, or is the battery/ECU acting up after the deep discharge?
Would appreciate any insights on what to expect at the service center and potential costs.
Thanks in advance!
