Finding the right Netflix alternative comes down to what you feel is missing – whether that’s the price, the quality of the original shows or specific franchises.

The streaming landscape has fractured quite a bit, but there are a handful of heavy hitters that rise above the rest as the best alternatives depending on your viewing habits.

# 1. Max (Formerly HBO Max) - Best for Prestige TV & Blockbusters

If your main gripe with Netflix is that the library is full of “filler” content, Max’s the gold standard upgrade. It really leans into premium, cinematic storytelling and has a great archive of iconic networks to pull from.

* **The Library:** All of the Warner Bros. movies, DC Universe and a huge chunk of Discovery’s unscripted reality catalog (HGTV, TLC) plus HBO heavyweights (House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Succession).
* **Pros:** Unmatched library of quality "must-see" prestige TV.
* **Cons:** The interface can feel a little disjointed at times because of the sheer amount of reality TV content they have and 4K streaming requires their top-tier plan.

# 2. Amazon Prime Video - Best Overall Value & Ecosystem

Prime Video is the closest competitor to Netflix in terms of pure catalog size, but it works differently. It’s not just a standalone app. It’s deeply integrated into the wider Amazon Prime ecosystem.

* **The Library:** Blockbuster originals (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Boys, Reacher) combined with a rotating library of recent theatrical releases and the ability to rent/buy titles not on the service.
* **Pros:** With payment for Amazon Prime shipping, you get this massive library for free. It also has the popular “X-Ray” (powered by IMDb) to see real time actors and music.
* **Cons:** The base plan now includes ads unless you pay a monthly surcharge and the UI can be confusing to navigate since paid rentals are mixed in with free titles.

# 3. Disney+ & Hulu Bundle: Best for Families & Current Network TV

While Disney+ on its own is hyper-focused on franchises, bundling it with Hulu turns it into a massive general-interest powerhouse that directly rivals Netflix's variety.

* **The Library:** Disney+ offers the steady, nostalgic backbone (Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney Classics, and The Simpsons). Hulu has next-day streaming of the major network shows (ABC, FX, Fox) as well as top-notch adult dramas like The Bear and Shogun.
* **Pros:** Amazing versatility; if you have the bundle, you can view Hulu content directly within the Disney+ app interface.
* **The Bad:** If you’re not into Disney’s bread-and-butter franchises, Disney Plus can feel a bit limiting without the bundle.

# 4. Apple TV+ Best for High-Concept Originals

Apple TV+ is the antithesis of Netflix: 0% licensed back-catalog, 100% premium, shiny original productions.

* **The Library:** Highly curated hits such as Severance, Ted Lasso, Foundation and Sil0.
* **Pros:** All content is in 4K HDR at no additional cost and the batting average for show quality is off the charts.
* **The bad: Its catalog is tiny compared to Netflix.** If you are a binge-watcher who burns through content quickly, you might run out of things to watch within a couple of months.

# The Free "FAST" Alternatives (No Subscription Required)

If subscription fatigue is your main reason for leaving Netflix, with the rise of FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) apps, you don’t have to pay to watch great content.

* **Tubi – Has a huge (and slightly chaotic) library of licensed movies and TV shows** It is essentially the modern-day digital equivalent of browsing a 90s blockbuster video store.
* **Pluto TV: It's like the traditional cable TV experience but replicated.** It features a live, rolling grid of channels dedicated to specific genres, live news, or 24/7 marathons of classic shows.
