What misconceptions did you have about the Pokémon Series?

For example, when I was younger, I knew enough to know that Brock and Misty were Ash's first travelling companions, with others (e.g. Tracey, May, Max, etc) representing companions from newer series. Hence, I assumed that ANY episode with Brock and Misty were "old series." The result? I ended up confusing lots of Johto episodes with Kanto episodes, before I learned the ways of Bulbapedia.

Another example, learning that digital animation appeared earlier than I expected. For example, "The Legend of Thunder" special used digital animation, and the original Japanese airing dated all the way back to 2001. And, apparently, this small section of the Orange Islands theme song (between :23 seconds and :28 seconds, featuring Staryu, Snorlax, and Charizard) was the first ever instance of digital animation ever in Pokémon (way back in the late 1990s).
