54 Gallon Corner Aquarium

Hey there! I recently got a 54 gallon corner tank. My first corner tank. It used to be a saltwater setup, and was drilled and had a sump and bulkheads behind the divider. My question is do I fill up that area with water also or do I keep it as dry as possible? Be gentle with me please 🫠
