Possible medical identity theft / insurance fraud at UW Campus Dentist (SLC)?
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a very weird situation that just happened to me to see if anyone else has had a similar experience, and also to warn everyone to look out for this.
I recently received a physical letter from Securian Canada regarding a "Dental Predetermination." The provider listed was the Campus Dentist located at the Student Life Centre (SLC), U of Waterloo.
Here is the catch: I have NEVER been to this dental clinic in my life.
Fortunately, the insurance company denied the claim with the note "Not covered because your coverage ended." So no money was stolen, but it's concerning that my name and info were used to request a dental estimate.
Interestingly, the letter had my Waterloo info but was mixed up with my home region's postal code.
I am planning to call the Campus Dentist tomorrow morning to clarify whether this was just a typo/administrative error on their end (like entering the wrong student ID), or if someone actually tried to use my identity.
Has anyone else received unexpected dental predeterminations from the SLC clinic recently? Please check your mail and student insurance accounts just in case, and stay vigilant!
