I've bought two cars and still don't know if I got a good deal on either. So I'm building the place I wish existed.

I've bought two cars. I still don't know if I got a good deal on either one (you know the feeling - I can't be the only one who feels this way). That's kind of why this exists.

First was a Tesla lease. Nothing to negotiate — same price for everyone — so I figured I was fine. But Tesla doesn't even tell you the money factor, and I had no idea if the terms were actually good or if I should've just waited a month. Deals change every month - one may say it is moot, but with enough data, I am confident there are trends - example, June month deals are better vs. May or April month, and waiting that extra month might save us all thousands.

Then my wife financed a BMW. We did our homework, signed, drove home happy. A few months later a friend mentioned he got basically the same car for a lot less. And yeah — that stung. Still don't know if we overpaid by a little or a lot or whether my friend was plain false bragging.

Here's the frustrating part: the info is out there. People share their deals all over forums and other sites, and some of those communities are great. But it's thousands of scattered posts with no way to actually compare them. You can't ask "what's a normal deal on this exact car, in my area, right now?" and get a straight answer.

So that's what I'm trying to build — a place where people drop their real deals, lease or finance, any brand, and we turn it into something you can actually compare. So nobody has to do the 1am math wondering if they got played.

I'll go first. Here are both of mine:

Tesla — lease [2023/model Y · $590.19/mo · 36mo/10k · due at signing $6,121.54 · signed 06/2016 · NJ]; Other charges. - Disposition Fees : $395 : Total Cost of Lease : $27,173.19; Gross Capitalized Cost : $53,130 [Attached is my Tesla lease document - I snipped the relevant part of the doc - Took me a minute].

BMW — finance - I'll post this in my next post.

If you've bought or leased anything, post yours below. Old deals, recent ones, good or bad — they all help. If you've got the paperwork, even better (just black out your name, address, and account numbers first).

Trying to get to the first 1,000. Let's figure out what a good deal actually looks like.

Note. - I fully appreciate that a 3 year old lease deal may not be useful to anyone right now, but I hope you also understand that a more recent deal (which I will post as I am currently negotiating a deal) would be worth a lot. 😄 - and together as a community we can get there.
