History/Timeline of the World (v1)
This is an attempted (rough) timeline of the series I put together. I combed through the books with respect to events explicitly mentioned and attempted to put them in the order that makes the most sense. A lot of the pre-Caten material relies heavily on inference; I try to justify the events placement and I am treating estimates by characters as accurate, as it is largely all we have. I have included a lot of context notes in the event section, so some of them are rather tangential.
- BR = Before Rending
- AR = After Rending
- AE = Architects Era, 11th Era
- VE = Vis Era, 12th Era
Please note: I may have messed up specific years prior to the series' events. I only was able to correct Vis' timeline crudely when I finished this version. To get the actual 'AR' date, take 3000 AR and add the respective 'VE' year value to it. I plan on doing that for V2 when I remove the context.
| Year | Event |
|---|---|
| ? BR | Vetusian is adopted as a language. As it existed pre-Rending. |
| ? BR | A 'self-contained' latticework of Iunctii are designed by the pre-Rending culture, its initial system being vastly large and complex. It was an independent machine made up of the dead, each interlinked and carefully purposed. It controlled (implied to mean managed, served) hundreds of millions of people across the world. The Concurrence referred to in the 12th era are the 'rogue remnants' of this Iunctii system. LXXX |
| <1000 BR | The war against the Concurrence begins prior to 1000 BR 2XII,XVIII |
| < 1000 BR | The massive grave catacombs in Qabr are implied to have been built around this time and filled with an estimated million dead, according to Vis. 2XI |
| ~1000 BR | The agricultural chamber within Qabr is constructed around this time period. |
| ? BR | A Druidic Grove in Letens is active, its presence on Res indicating it is pre-Rending. |
| ? BR | The White monolithic sea walls of Solivagus are constructed at some point prior to the Rending, being present on all three worlds. 2I, |
| ? BR | The Nexus is constructed, formed of an unbreakable and strange red-glass that is the color of blood. The topography of the world is inscribed on its surface. |
| RENDING, ~3,302 years before the series | The Rending is executed by humanity in a last-ditch effort to contain and defeat the Concurrence. The World is copied into three identical versions, but Will is split across the respective worlds in three different facets. |
| Likely designed pre-Rending, instituted ? AR | The 'commandment of isolation' is instituted by the 'leadership' that enforce the post-Rending separation of worlds. On Luceum, scarred individuals are prohibited from leadership (2XLV) Checks against synchronicity are installed on at least Res and Luceum, with the Aurora Columnae triggering defense mechanisms on Res, and in Fornax on Luceum with the Guardian Statues and the voice. On Obiteum, the Cult formed around Ka and the construction of the Sanctum prevents access to the AC and thus Will usage. Whether these behaviors took the same form immediately after the Rending. On Res at least, the subsequent civilizations that exist in each era grow increasingly more ignorant of the nature of their past (Gate not in use, warriors not being sent, Will usage being curtailed) despite Ka's leadership faction still controlling the reigns of the civilization that uses Will in each era. |
| ? AR (R) | Ruins nearest to the academy in the 12th era are constructed, with some connection to the three worlds, in which an operator of the ruins can view the different worlds status. These ruins are later repurposed by an unknown faction, implied to live in the 11th era. NOTE: Possibly built during the AE, but not likely. |
| < 10 AR (L) | The labyrinth chamber inside of the Nexus on Luceum is 'sealed against the tools of the enemy,' leaving the flesh toll as the only way out of the Gate. (1Epilogue) |
| < 10 AR (R, O) | The Remnants from Obiteum are transported between Res and Obiteum (or are housed somewhere on Res) to defend the Gate, and to test willing soldiers. |
| ? AR | The Sea Wall on Luceum is deactivated at some point after the Rending. It remains active on Obiteum. 2I & 2II There is a noticeable topographical difference between Luceum and Res when Vis visits the small ruins on Solivagus. 1XXXIII This implies significant time has passed between deactivation on Luceum for the topography to vary. |
| <300s AR (R) | The war against the Concurrence is won on Res, and the Labyrinth is used as a testing grounds for warriors to be sent through to L & O to fight. XLII |
| ? AR (O) | The Black Pyramids housing the remnants of humanity were constructed after the Rending, likely preceding Obiteum's surface inhabitability, and channels are constructed enabling travel between the cities. One on Solivagus seems to connect to Qabr, or at least near to it. This is evidenced to be AR by the absence of a pyramid by Caten on Res, as seen during the Naumachia. |
| ? AR (O) | The Black Pyramid at Caten, with monolithic statues and a bridge spanning the entire harbor, is constructed. |
| ? AR (O) | The war against the Concurrence is lost on Obiteum, leading to the obliteration of the planet's atmosphere by some unknown means (most likely by humanity). Solivagus suffers a detonation of an unknown source, leading to a massive crater surrounding the Nexus sphere. |
| < 300 AR (out of order) (O) | At some time after Obiteum is lost, Iunctus are purposed on Solivagus to recite 'Obiteum is lost. Do not open the gate. Synchronous is death.' 1XXXIII |
| ? AR (O) | The Mutalis tomb is sealed in Qabr, with a peer to Ka within. The construction of the tomb reflects that of Ka's Sanctum, as does the blood activated tools. |
| ? AR (O) | The glyph-activated lift Nexus is built, with green proto-Nyripk script being the language. NOTE: This could be a 11th Era (AE) construction, but Duat also shares the sickly green coloration, as does Qabr's Agricultural chamber. |
| ? AR | The acid columns beneath the river in Duat are constructed with identical architecture to the Seawall, implying they are from the same faction built prior to the Rending. 2LXI |
| ? AR | Cymrian (R) and 'the Tongue,' (L) share a common origin and diverge so much so that despite having similarities, Vis recognizes nothing between the two in the 12th Era, but is able to tell they are similar. Ceol refers to itself as 'the language of gods, of ceol, of dance.' and Vis finishes the sentence with 'and of all things that delight the heart' and that his Cymrian tutor on Suus and Eidhin have described 'Cymrian almost exactly the same way' on Res. 2XXVII |
| ? AR or ? BR | The Necropolis is hollowed out of the mountain range it sits in, and was one of the earliest attempts by Ka's faction to build something that could rival the Concurrence. This effort was not successful. 2LXXX Possibly BR. The Necropolis's true chambers, one such used by Military that Vis was taken to by Emissa, hosts an Old Vetusian inscription (no glow, not green), with 'Death is the door to life'. 2XXXIII This is also seen inside of Duat (2XL) on the whitestone arch on grand Obsidian bridge connecting West Duat (Iunctus section) to East (living section) |
| ? AR | Interworld travel occurs, with Obiteum-based artifacts including a weapon, as well as Khepri in unknown quantities are on Res. This is also indicated by the two illustrations shown to R-Vis (1XXIII) by Princeps-mandated testing (2XX) which depict a Duat-like city and pyramid (and Iunctus 2XL), which were constructed post-Rending. XXXIII Emissa implies that Military found the artifacts that can raise the dead as well as the instruction blades, however, the Necropolis existing for over a century according to Ka and being filled with the dead may imply it was discovered nearly a century ago. |
| ? AR (L) | A mile marker is inscribed with 'Lapides Animarum' (translates Latin to 'Soul Stones' or 'Stones of Souls') 2LXII The road on Luceum is described as 'centuries past disrepair,' but this location has been used by druids and warriors alike for thousands of years it is implied. |
| ? AR Luceum | Fornax is constructed, or repurposed post-Rending. 2LXII The city has architecture resembling but distinct to Caten. A statue similar to Vorcian on Res is seen. (per SOTF glossary, Vorcian is the 'god of the forge' which may have relation to Fornax), and the Obsidian statues have the Hierarchy logo on them. |
| ON FORNAX: | Fornax's center building, a triangular archway that has an inscription in Vetusian of 'For the Safety of Luceum'. The voice in the area, that seems to instruct, calls the AC a 'Menhir'. It also states that the 'The worthy and the riven will proceed'. This may give dating for Fornax's construction, or at least the function of this chamber. That the voice, the weapons within the and the silver statues are hostile to Vis' synchronicity implies the builders align with Ka's faction. |
| NOTE | Eleven cataclysms occur over 3,000 years with some regularity (2I) and the last was the 'eleventh in 3000 years' implying ~3300 years AR. |
| ~300 AR | The first era concludes. Obiteum has been sealed at this point, per an Iunctus Vis encounters in the Labyrinth. |
| ? 2E (R) | Dorail Numinus attempts to remove the seal to Obiteum (not stated to, like the rest of the Iunctii seen here, to try and become Synchronous). He was condemned to become a Iunctus to guide warriors that come thereafter. 1LXVII |
| 600 AR | The second era concludes. |
| 900 AR | The third era concludes. |
| 1200 AR | The fourth era concludes. |
| 1500 AR | The fifth era concludes. |
| 1800 AR | The sixth era concludes. |
| 1800-2100 AR ? | A rebellion occurs against the Rending order, in which a faction attempts to gain Synchronicity to subvert the current status quo. 1XLI |
| Artemius Sel attempts to access the Gate to become Synchronous and remove the seal to Obiteum. 1XLI He is caught prior to entering the Labyrinth, and condemned to become an Iunctus to guide the warriors that are sent to the other worlds. 1XLI | |
| 2100 AR | The seventh era concludes. |
| ~2302 AR | The maps that O-Caeror has possession of are crudely dated to this period 2XVIII |
| 2400 AR | The eighth era concludes. |
| 2661 AR | Significant structural damage to Duat occurs with the destruction of the original filtration system. This event featured explosions in West Duat, combat with steel on steel, and flames and crumbling stone. A complete activation of Gleaners is deployed that are 'activated to eliminate existential threats,' 2LIII Gleaners were deployed for protection, then suppressing riots in the ensuing panic and drought. 2LIII |
| 2670 AR | The original tunnels that led to the Water filtration system were filled with tailor cut stone to block the way to the new filtration system. 633 years prior to Vis entering. 2XXXI, 2LXI |
| 2700 AR | The ninth era concludes. |
| ~300 AR / 1 AE | The tenth era concludes |
| ? AE | The Architect faction becomes aware of a flaw of Ka's on Obiteum), and intend to exploit it to stop the cycle of Cataclysms. Will users with the ability to modify the strange will structures in the ruins (and had knowledge of Instruction blades) as well as create voice-activated Will events (only otherwise seen at the Nexus entrance) repurpose Iunctus from the Gate to create a Nomarch-like means of bypassing the Security measures. XLII These Architects were aware of a restriction on Iunctus 'cognitive capacity' due to a 'sanguis imperium,' which is likely a restriction on blood-based inter-world functions of Will by Ka's faction. They succeed in doing this, each time it is executed it causes the death of the person and an integration into the Nomarch. This interruption does not enable them to bypass the Labyrinth, as seen in the 12th era. |
| ? VE | It is possible that the Architect faction are the ones that inscribed on the archway at the end of the initial passage into the smaller ruins with the Bypass-Mechanism the words 'In trying to become God, they created Him' (1XXXIII) It is written in the same green method as the rushed scrawls that line the walls and include the Labyrinth bracer, of which Vis recognizes the symbols. However, it is written in Vetusian that Vis can read, not the language on the walls (which most likely is the same as the near-Nyripkian script Vis sees on Obiteum in Qabr). Likewise, inside of the chamber but upon the bronze plate (bronze being seen inside of the Nexus and on Luceum that teleported him out of the Nexus) is scrawled the same unrecognizable script, but it is very, very neatly written and not rushed. Could it imply a different origin? The green sickly hue is seen on Obiteum, as well as the illustrations shown to Vis by Catenan testers. It is implied that whatever is happening in that chamber is from after the Rending by a faction separate to Ka's. |
| ? AE | Alta Semita, a district in Caten, is implied to share similar glyphs as are in the ruins near to the Academy, implying that this ruin shared a culture. XLII |
| ? AE | The Architect faction reverse engineers the vambrace required to control the Labyrinth structures. They inscribe these schematics in scrawled scripts on the walls of the tunnels in the ruins near the Academy. Vis notes that the writing immediately after entering the tunnel is hastily scrawled, and rushed. That he has no recognition of the script is curious, implying it is likely very old, as he can read Vetusian which is Ka's native tongue. XLII |
| ? AE | Elia Veranius attempts to access the gate and become Synchronous to remove the seal on Obiteum. She fails, and becomes an Iunctus.1XLI |
| Late 200s AE | The architects that built the Gate-Bypass on Solivagus fail at preventing the 11th cataclysm. (2I) Veridius cites them as being against the Concurrence, and seeing synchronicity as the means to prevent another Cataclysm. How long they were at this effort is unclear. |
| ? Nearer to VE | The gray-stone structures are built around the access point to the Nexus-Bypass, which are the small ruins nearest to the Academy on Solivagus. XXXII |
| ~ 3000 AR | The 11th Cataclysm occurs, beginning the 12th Era known here as 'VE' for 'Vis Era' (2I) |
| ? <VE | A girl younger than twelve is condemned to become an Iunctus and serve as a demonstrator for the Nexus, likely for violating the commandment of isolation. 1LXVII |
| 3001 AR / 1 VE | The Cataclysm occurs, beginning the era that Vis lives in. It spanned the entire world, and killed 95% of humanity, the majority of the survivors being children. The records from the following decade cite 'towns filled with the dead, cities burning, whole nations erased in a moment.' and almost nothing prior to the cataclysm. (1VI) |
| <3001 AR | The Qabrans or their ancestors captured Gleaners and repurposed their bodies to be used as filtration Iunctii for their agriculture. |
| ? VE | A man named Etrius with a famous weapon, called a wingblade, lives. |
| ? VE | The fortress of Orun Tel is captured, perhaps by Etrius. |
| ? VE | The first Triumverate is formed; likely meaning Religion, Military, and Government. |
| ~<150 VE VE | The ruins of a city called Altaris Machia are discovered by Caten, alongside one or more Aurora Columnae, the implication being that the culture that built the city used Will. 1LXI |
| ~150 VE? | The pre-cataclysm ruins of Serica are discovered, which featured advanced Reactive-Will engineering. 1LXI |
| ? VE <260s likely | Old Catenan legionnaires used to favor rectangular shields, but have since trended towards smaller shields, or none.1XLIV |
| <150 VE | 'More than five generations of my [Diago] family had lived...' in the Suus' royal palace. |
| 86/87 VE (O) | The 'last independent community' was absorbed by the Amemet [Gleaners] 217 years prior to 303 VE. 2XLVI This implies that Ka's Nomarch is unaware of Qabr's population until its raiding, possibly meaning it is new to the 11th/12th era. |
| <150 VE | Villa Telimus is constructed in the period prior to Will being used in construction technology. 1XII |
| ~150 VE | The Catenan Republic discovers the means of using the Aurora Columnae to enable Will ceding. 1VI |
| Late 100s VE | The Philosopher Magelicus lives. In his times, Will users were 'little more than a small, suspiciously viewed sect in Catenan society'. He is revered and seen as a founder of the nation. |
| Late 100s/ early 200s VE | Vetusian is excised from Catenan culture and language over a century prior to the lifetime of Vis'. (I) |
| Late 100s/ early 200s VE | The ruins in which the Heart of Jovan is hid within on Solivagus are dated by Vis to this time. LXX |
| Late 100s/early 200s VE | Caten discovers the Necropolis, and begin to store the dead of their conquests for the extraction of information. Some means of preservation without conversion into an Iunctus is present. 2LXXX |
| ~200 VE | Bathhouses become a staple in Catenan civilization around this time. |
| ~203 VE | The Sytrecian University develops an explosive mixture later used in Will Shells by the Catenan Republic 2LXXVII |
| Early 200s VE | A large, coordinated assault on Caten occurs around this time. XXXVIII |
| 240s VE (L) | Lir is born sometime in the 240s-250s VE. |
| 220s VE | Agricultural advancements during this decade enable a massive increase in food production, and in turn caused a massive boom in population due to government incentives. XIII |
| 230s VE (L) | The land of Tiroedd Rhydd on Luceum (Sytrece-Tensia), has tribal kingdoms that raid each other for as long as living memory can recall. |
| 220s-230s VE | The brother of Lerius Telimus and uncle to Ulcisor & Caeror Telimus is born in this decade. 1XXXVII |
| 250s VE | The ruins of the ancient great cities of Sena Corlisis and Tolverium begin their excavation and investigation. Tolverium is implied to be near twice the size of Caten.(XVIII) |
| < 252 VE | Lerius and Milena Telimus are born prior to 352 VE. 1XXXVIII |
| 250s VE | The Catenan Republic engages the nation of Butaria in a naval battle titled 'the Battle of Callage'. |
| 250s VE/253 VE | Birthright is established by the Catenan Republic, and Will Shells have not seen use since this crude time period according to Vis. 2LXXVII, 1VIII, 1VII |
| 255 VE (O) | Ahmose was born around this period 2XXV |
| 260-270s VE | Ahmose witnesses Ophois open the gates to the Temple of Ka. 2XLI |
| 260s VE | Cian is born in this decade. 2II |
| 271/272 VE (6 months before proscriptions) | A young Kadmos becomes the headmaster of the Azriat Institute in Sytrece. XIII |
| Early 270s VE (O) | Kira is born around this time period 2XXXI |
| 272 VE | In Deopolis, a pretender named Erimedes made claims and initiated a revolt that risked the friendship of Caten. Dimidius Carthius eventually crushed the revolt. Kadmos, six months after becoming headmaster, was taken from his bed in the night when proscriptions began. XIII |
| 272 VE | Kadmos becomes the physician for the Telimus family. XIII |
| 278 VE | Caeror is born to the Telminus family. 1XXII Lanistia is born to a Sextus parent (presumably father). 1XXII |
| <280s VE | Prior to their assimilation into Catenan culture, the Cymrians lived by a code of life known as the 'ddram cyfraith,' which Vis translates to 'The Right to Death'. Eidhin details that it "speaks of the Cataclysm as a cycle. An inevitability of balance." 1XVI The Glossary for book 2 cites that the code "Honours death as a sacrifice". The connection to the Cymrians and Luceum is not likely coincidental, and the adherence to sacrificial warrior culture meshes with the early-fight that the Rending faction instituted. |
| 280s VE | Cymria falls to Catenan conquest, more than twenty years before Suus. |
| 280s VE | The timeline of Catenan conquest or occupation is implied to have been in this order over the following twenty years from 280 VE: Butaria, Nyripk, Aquiria. 2XX |
| 280s VE | The Aurora Columnae are cited to have 'barely glowed at all' X |
| 282/283 VE | Kiya is made into an Iunctus and subjected to the process to make her into part of the Nomarch, but it is aborted, leaving her in an in-between state. 2LXI |
| 283 VE | Netiqret in Duat receives a message through an Iunctus being controlled in a way only Vis and Ka could, with information about Kiya. He said that if Netiqret killed a priest and made it look like a natural death, then Kiya would be returned to Netiqret prior to full integration into the Nomarch, a house, and a means to move through the city without being seen to ensure her safety (presumably this means the tunnels). The Iunctus later brought Kiya after Netiqret did this, and stated to her that the Nomarch itself was the only one who could revert her to normal (this was a lie, as Vis tried it himself), and that Kiya attempting to reconnect to the Nomarch would reintegrate her. Netiqret never heard from this person again. Considering Djedef gave Vis Netiqret's name, but she denies ever meeting him, it means likely Djedef was sent by this third party. 2LXXVI Netiqret suspects earlier that she was positioned by this person to be a tool for Vis' quest. (that Djedef left when Vis arrived implies perhaps that whoever is inside Duat has connections to O-Caeror.) |
| 282-296 VE | In the fourteen years preceding Veridius' year in the Academy, there were only two documents deaths. One is of an Octavii worker, and one is of a student's suicide. It is possible this is Ostius. |
| 285 +- 1 VE | Emissa is born to Magnus Quartus Corenius, then a Quintus or lower. 2XXXIII |
| 285 +- 1 VE | Aequa is born to Quartus Advenius and a Sextus mother. She was raised by Tisiphone, an Octavii, as her mother was often away. She has unrecognized siblings by her parents.1XVI |
| 285 VE (minus two months) | Vis, originally named Diago, is born on Suus to its King Cristoval. |
| 287 VE | Tensia, the country in which Letens is located, joins the Catenan Republic by conquering 2XXIV |
| 287-300 VE | A treaty is signed between Tensia and Caten, wherein part of their resources are shared with Caten, and the great stone wall that guarded Letens city is torn down for sole reliance on Will as a condition. 1VI |
| 288 VE | Gallchobhar went to Fornax and earned his weapon at least at this year. 2LXVII |
| 291s VE (O) | Ahmose, a craftsmen, dies suddenly. He spent the following 11 years working in the upper levels of Duat. 2XL & 2LVI |
| 294 VE | Ostius last sees his uncle Exesius, the Princeps of Military 2LV |
| >294 VE, | Ostius is sent to Solivagus and enters the Gate, becoming synchronous, but not for long enough for him to learn how to practice adoption on Res or Luceum, implying he loses synchronicity quite quickly. 2LV (and the chapters with Ostius near to the testing of Vis) He goes missing on Res thereafter, his status unknown on all worlds until 302-304 VE. |
| Mid 290s VE | A Suusian trading ship is blown off course by a violent storm while enroute to Nyripk, and discovered an unmapped island far to the East. Ruins on this island hosted a trove of items and documents that were brought back to Suus. Suusian scholars translated this writing, revealing the nature of the Cataclysms being a cycle of destruction related to an ancient war, and that the Aurora Columnae were somehow involved. In this trove is instructions for the weapon used at the Naumachia by Estevan. LIX |
| Early 290s VE | Ulcicsor, some ten years Vis' senior, attends the Academy years prior to Caeror. 1XVI |
| 295 VE | Vis/Diago at age 10 carves toy wooden ships, inscribing them with his family's names etched under hidden slots on their decks. They are later absconded by Fadrique and hidden after the conquest of Suus by Caten. 1LVII |
| 295 VE | The Academy is moved to Solivagus from the Catenan mainland due to the grain riots that occurred this year. It was done by the intent of Religion, prior to Veridius' ascension, and prior to Caeror's class starting. |
| 295 VE | Princeps Pitorius of Religion outmaneuvers Princeps Exesius of Military, and relocates the Academy from the Catenan mainland to Solivagus, securing the Gate for investigation and preventing Exesius from facilitating a cataclysm. 2LV |
| 295 VE | Grain riots occur in Caten, and the Telimus family are concerned the Academy Cycle would be canceled. They are elated when it is announced the Academy was moved and would be hosted that year. |
| 295 VE | Ulcisor is raised to the Hierarchy rank of Quintus, working day and night and growing in influence. 1XXII |
| 295 VE | Caeror, Lanistia, Veridius, and Nateo attend the Academy during its first year on Solivagus. The Academy hosts year and a half long courses (1XI). |
| 295 VE | Caeror at the academy excels in the first trimester, and returns home during the Festival of Jovan. He had met Veridius at this time. 1XXII H e is recruited by the the Principalis prior to Veridius to assist him in translations of the glowing scrawls in the ruins nearest to the Academy. 2XLII |
| 295 VE pre-winter | Caeror misses the Festival of the Ancestors, two months after the Festival of Jovan. Ulciscor sneaks a Will-pen to Caeror in the Academy, as security was lax at this time. 1XXII Throughout this time, Caeror writes strangely worded letters that later turn out to be in code. 1XXII |
| 295 VE approaching winter | Just prior to the end of the second trimester of the Academy, Caeror writes to Ulcisor that he will not be returning to Caten, and instead would spend the Winter on Solivagus to prepare for the Iudicium with Veridius and Lanistia. He was 17 at this time. 1XXII |
| 296 VE | The third trimester at the academy sees communications between Caeror and Ulcisor dwindling, with one final long message a week prior to the Iudicium. Two weeks later, they received word that Lanistia was permanently injured, and that Caeror threw himself off a cliff in grief. Two days prior to Caeror's death, Ulcisor received a coded message by Caeror mentioning 'Obiteum' and 'Luceum'. 1XXII Lanistia later has no memory of the months prior to the Iudicium. 1XXII Apparently, Caeror's body was ravaged by Alupi, preventing analysis of his injuries. 1XXII |
| 296 VE | Caeror dies during the Iudicium. Veridius wins Domitor (VI) and controversially bids for the post of Principalis of the Academy and to join Religion, and for it to be permanently stationed on Solivagus. Religion under Princeps Pitorius facilitates this and in doing so outmaneuvers Princeps Exesius from controlling Solivagus.. (VI book 1, LV book 2) |
| > 296 VE | A Will-cage is installed at the entrance to the Academy sometime after Caeror's year and before Vis' year. 1XXII |
| ~296 VE | O-Caeror cites that it took months for him to adjust to the overwhelming change that Obiteum was. 2XVIII And that it took at least six months for the Qabrans to speak to him 2XXI |
| 296-302 VE | Solivagus is breached by an unknown party in an unknown context, implied to be connected to the ruins. 1XXXIII |
| 296-297 VE | Veridius is promoted to Principalis of the Academy within a year of his graduation as Domitor. 1VI, 2LV |
| 297 VE | Nateo is placed onto the Sapper in Letens. |
| 298 VE | Relucia and Ulciscor are married, after her father approached his father a year after Caeror's death. XXXIX |
| 298 VE | Aquiria signs a treaty with Caten, being enveloped into the greater country. It is described as a 'complicated and disorganized union' with the Hierarchy. 1XVI It is stated to have 'collapsed' later, implying it was in disarray. 1XXVII Vis implies it was months between when his false parents died and the Catenans came to Aquiria. 1XXVII |
| < 298/299 VE | Cristoval describes to Vis that the Anguis are essentially throwing a tantrum, implying they exist prior to the conquest of Suus. 1VIII |
| Early 299 VE | Veridius visits Villa Corenius to recruit Emissa for the Labyrinth at the end of the Academic year, on the condition that she does not undergo the ritual of the Aurora Columnae. 2XXXIII |
| Early 299 VE | Three months before the conquest of Suus, a female agent reveals to Cristoval that some of the Dimidii and the Princeps are aware of the threat of the Cataclysms. 2LIX |
| Mid 299 VE | A few months after Veridius visits her family's Villa, Emissa, Belli, Iro, and Prav are invited to Solivagus between Academy Cycles, and spend the entire summer practicing the Labyrinth. 2XXXIII |
| Mid 299 VE | Suus falls to Catenan conquest, in part due to Cristoval's discovery of Rending artifacts on an Island to the northeast by Nyripk. (1I,II) The invasion is led by Quartus Latani who is afterwards styled as 'Suusicus' and is the one who ordered the deaths of Vis' family. 1LVII Cited to be 'three and a half years' prior to when Vis visits Suus again in mid-winter 302 VE. 1LIII |
| Mid 299 VE | Vis, then Diago, and his little sister Princess Carinza escape the conquest, fleeing into the submerged tunnels. Carinza drowns, but Vis escapes. 1LVII |

| Mid-Late 299 VE | Cristoval is awoken by Military, being questioned by Dimidius Quiscil about the Rending and Cataclysms, roughly a month after the conquest of Suus. 2LIX |
| Mid & Late 299 VE | Within three months of the conquest, most of Suus' population had visited Aurora Columnae under threat of Proscription and the Sappers. Six months afterwards, there was little resistance at all. 1LVII |
| 299 VE | The remaining beaches on Solivagus are removed and the Seawall is activated under the orders of Religion. |
| 299 VE O | O-Caeror claims that 'several years' prior to 302 VE, an Iunctus was planted by Ka to infiltrate Qabr. |
| 299 VE | Eidhin's twin brother, Cathair, is killed by the Republic in their attack on their people, as told by Baine Breac to Vis in 303 VE. 2LXVI |
| Early 300 VE | Six months after Suus' conquest, Vis is travelling through Tensia and encounters the village of Aiobhinn, consisting of a hundred people, with four Septimii. They offered him shelter briefly, and ignore his theft when he leaves. 1XIX This would after 300 VE began for Vis, six months later, to reach the village nearing the harvest season. |
| 300 VE (L) | King Fiachra's men sneak into Caer Aras and killed Artan, their champion, and disfiguring Tara by cutting her on her cheek and leaving an ugly scar. Gallchobhar killed all of them, leading to a 'Donnan' appointing Gallchobhar champion, against the desires of Lir. 2XLV |
| Mid 300 VE | Emissa's father secretly puts her through the Aurora Columnae, unknown to Veridius. 2XXXII |
| Fall 300 VE | Vis revisits Aiobhinn, the small village in Northern Tensia, six months later nearing harvest time, learning the village had been raided. 1XIX This would mean this is during the fall. |
| 300 VE | Vis avoids orphanages for more than a year after visiting Aiobhinn for the first time. 1XIX |
| 300 VE | Vis arrives in Letens 18 months before book 1. He had not left until the series begins. 1VI |
| 300/301 VE | Vis begins working at the Letens sapper facility, 15 months before book 1. 1I |
| 301 VE | Vis straps in a prisoner to a Sapper eight months prior to the start of book 1. 1I |
| 301 VE | Vis begins fighting in Letens over six months prior to book 1. 1IV |

| Late 301 VE | Veridius invites Aequa to the Academy two months prior to the start of the First Trimester. 2XXXIII |
| 301-302 VE | Lanistia and Ulcisor reconstruct the Labyrinth beneath Villa Telimus illegally, over the course of months. 1XV |
| ~302 VE | At some point after the Anguis become aware of Vis, Ostius awakes Cristoval who is in the custody of Military. He questions him about Vis and potential means of leverage over him. 2LX This likely occurs after Estevan joins the Anguis, and after Relucia identifies Vis as a candidate tool for the Anguis. Ulcisor's recruitment of him seems to be coincidental to this, so perhaps it is after the initial chapters of book 1. |
| 302 VE plus two months | Vis turns 17 years old two months prior to the start of book 1. His identity however is supposed to turn 17 ten weeks after his real birthday, per Hierarchy records. (II) |
| Early 302 VE | Nateo is transferred to the Letens Sapper facility. 1I |
| Early 302 VE | Ulciscor, under the false name Hospius, visits Nateo in the Letens prison. |
| Early summer 302 VE | Vis and Ulcisor's transvect enroute across Northern Tensia is attacked by the Anguis, and Relucia cites that the Festival of Jovan is one month away. 1VIII |
| Early-Mid 302 VE | Vis is announced to attend the Academy four months into its 1.5 year long course, a few weeks away from the month long 1st trimester break for the Festival of Jovan. XI He will join on the first day of the second trimester (1VIII) and is training at the Telimus household prior to the end of the first trimester (1XVI) This implies that the 1st Trimester break is roughly in the summer, which means the Academy starts its academic years at the start of or late into the year. |
| Early Summer 302 VE | Vis begins his two-month long training at Villa Telimus prior to the start of the second trimester of the Academy. 1XI |
| Summer 302 VE | Vis attends the Naumachia, which takes place during the Festival of Jovan. 1VIII One month into his training with Lanistia. Afterwards he is unconscious for a week, and notes that he has two weeks left to train before the Academy's first day. 1XXII Vis notes it is the summer when he is tested after the Naumachia. 1XXIV |
| Early-Mid 302 VE | Vis' first day of the Academy is two months before the Festival of the Ancestors 1XXVI |
| Mid 302 VE | Four academy cycles have been hosted under Veridius, with students dying from classes three and four, according to Callidus. 1XLVII |
| Mid 302 VE | Vis attends the Festival of Ancestors, and visits the Nexus ruins in the western regions of Solivagus. He saves the Alupi that he names Diago, here. This is six months prior to the Iudicium of that Academy Cycle, and would take place during late summer/early fall. 1LXVI |
| Mid-late 302 VE | Vis is promoted to class five a few days after the Festival of Ancestors. 1XLVII |
| Mid-Late 302 VE | Vis is raised to class four 23 days after being promoted to class five. Vis cites that there are six months until the end of the year, one month of which being the trimester break 1XLVII |
| Late 302 VE | Roughly two weeks into class four, Vis cites that the trimester break is a month away, with the Festival of Pletuna only a week away from when he notes this, implying there is some ~20+ days between the Festival of Pletuna and break between the second and third trimesters of the Academy. He is then invited to Suus by Indol. It is the middle of winter around here.1XLVIII |
| Late 302 VE | Vis returns to Suus with his classmates, to spy on a meeting for the Anguis and to report to Ulcisor and Lanistia on his findings. LXVIII |
| Late 302 VE | Three and a half years after Suus' conquest (implying it was the summer of 299 VE), relative to when Vis visited Suus again. Vis cites that Relucia could not have known of Suus' passageways when Fadrique, his father's steward, calls the timing fortunate that he would be on Suus with the Military meeting. In order for someone to be aware of this, they have to have had knowledge of Suus' tunnel systems. This could have been Estevan, but it also could have been Cristoval: implying that Ostius may have awoken Cristoval as of this point in the story. 1LVII Vis cites that 'only my family and a few scant others knew about' the tunnels, perhaps compare to Cristoval's comments on Estevan in book 2. Fadrique states that only Vis and his sisters really used the tunnels. Vis cites that Estevan was not supposed to know about the tunnels, and so likely it was Cristoval |
| Late 302 VE | Vis cites that the Iudicium is four months away when he is on Suus during the break. 1LII This is mid-winter according to Indol. |
| YEAR CHANGE 302-303 VE | As it is the summer when Vis begins training at Villa Telimus, and it is mid-winter during the second trimester break some 4-5 months later, this would imply the year changes from 302 to 303 VE between the third trimester starting and the Iudicium, with the Iudicium taking place sometime in the spring. 1LXIII Vis cites that 'three hundred and two years' had passed since the last Cataclysm, which would mean it was year 303. |
| 303 VE (O) | O-Caeror arrives two weeks prior to the Iudicium on Res starting. 2I |
| Spring 303 VE | During the Iudicium, Vis encounters Diago; he cites that he saved the cub six months earlier during the Festival of Ancestors. 1LXVI |
| Spring 303 VE | Vis becomes Synchronous, awakening on all three worlds. |
| Early 303 VE | Ostius re-awakens Cristoval, and tells Cristoval he would release him if he promised to protect over Vis on Luceum. 2LX Ostius is stated to find out about Vis' synchronicity after Vis had already departed the Tempea Albios on Luceum and was on the boat headed to Fiachra. 2LX |
| Early-Mid 303 VE | Vis spends two months training with Caeror in Qabr. 2XVIII |
| Late Spring/Mid 303 VE | Ostius and Vis' second meeting during the day of his Mendex Animus test is five months prior to the Festival of Pletuna. 2XX This meeting occurs roughly two months after the Iudicium. |
| 303 VE (O) | Ahmose is taken to become a gleaner ten years into his three and thirty years of service. 2XLI |
| Early 303 VE (O) | The Gleaners invade Qabr, killing the population and entering the agricultural chamber where they restricted the water supply, not outright destroying the chamber. That the Gleaners got past the chamber door is an interesting indicator of Qabr's origins perhaps being tied to Ka. 2LXIX The water system supplying the agricultural chamber is revealed to be similar to that of Duats, but instead of them being intact bodies, the ones in the Qabran chamber are made of Gleaner corpses, and they have wounds in their chest indicating the instruction blades on them were turned on their own flesh. 2LXIX Early in the novel, Vis learns from Kira that there are only 80 or so known Gleaners, 18 of which are in the Sanctum. |
| 302/303 VE | Vis saves Ahmose from becoming a Gleaner after secreting into Duat. |
| 303 VE (O) | 82 days pass between Vis rescuing Ahmose in Duat and Kiya and his first discussion while practicing for the ceremony. Vis rescues Ahmose at least two months after becoming Synchronous |
| Have not finished accurate dating for most of the book 2 events, but it seems I am able to as they are crudely chronological. | Magnus Quartus Corenius is promoted to Quartus, a month prior to the Festival of Jovan. 2XXXIII |
| Two months pass since the placement on Res for Vis, and he meets Emissa at the Festival of Jovan th en. 2XXXIII. | |
| Vis cites that he left the Academy four months ago, and was there for a year, when he returns with Aequa and Eidhin. 2XXXVI Later, it is cited that the Festival of Pletuna is three months from then. 2XLIII | |
| Netiqret cites that the ceremony she wants Vis to perform in is a few months away 2XLI, and later it is implied that it was three months away from then. 2XLVI | |
| Vis cites that the massacre at Qabr occurred 'almost six months ago' prior to his return to Qabr near the end of book 2, when he returns for the Mutalis weapon. 2LXIX | |
| VIs cites that he had last visited Lanistia on Res in the Sapper facility 'a couple of months ago'. 2LXXII | |
| Almost 304 VE | L-Caeror cites that it has been almost eight years since he arrived in Luceum, implying the second book takes the span of a year or so. 2LXXIX |
| ? VE Book 3+ hint | >!The three Vis meet each other, according to an interview it is heavily hinted. !<https://youtu.be/Kz6tqs6EeLg?t=512 |
