Should I buy Renegades before last update?

I haven't really played Destiny for a long time, except for Iron Banner. But i kind of want to have access to the lightsabers. Should i buy the expansion now that is cheap, or will everything be unlocked in the last update?

I won't mind playing story mode too if it is decent enough.
