Thinking about using Hyper Burning on a Mercedes instead of my main Ren bad idea?

I used to play Maplestory years ago, but I forgot the login information for my old account. It's probably been around 4 years since I last played, so I recently started over with a new account.

I'm planning to main Ren, but from what I've read there's a Hyper Burning event going on. My initial thought was to use the Hyper Burning on a Mercedes for the EXP Link Skill rather than on my main.

Part of the reason is that I'd like to take my time progressing on Ren and experience the character's progression more naturally instead of blasting through a huge portion of the early game.

Does this sound like a terrible idea, or is it a reasonable approach? I'm curious what more experienced players would recommend before I commit to it.
