Shoes for two year old?

We’re visiting in July with our two year old. I’m going back and forth between buying him waterproof sneakers/hiking-ish boots or just bringing his normal rain boots and a pair of sneakers for less adventurous walks. We’re doing some light trail walks but nothing intense. My husband and I have been to Iceland twice, and I feel like the rain boots will be fine for him based on our previous experiences.

Can anyone who has visited with little kids weigh in on what worked and what didn’t? I’m open to any kind of advice on visiting Iceland with littles as well!
