Did I request Community Care the right way?

The VA hasn't really been helping me with my mental health conditions which I'm rated for. I've been seeing them for treatment for like the past 4 or 5 years I don't remember.

I sent a message today through secure mail to the community care admin and it said

I'm requesting a community care referral for my mental health conditions.

This is just to get the ball rolling. I don't really know how this works. I don't have a job or insurance so I get everything healthcare wise through the VA.
