Title: I Used to Be Someone Before I Became "Mom"
Post:
Does anyone else sometimes catch a glimpse of their old self and feel a weird pang of... grief?
Like yesterday I was putting away laundry and found this blazer I used to wear to work. And for just a second I remembered what it felt like to have conversations about things other than sleep schedules and pediatrician appointments.
I used to have opinions about books and movies. I used to stay up late because I wanted to, not because someone was teething. I used to make plans that weren't centered around nap times.
Don't get me wrong I love being a mom. I love my kids fiercely.
But sometimes I wonder where "me" went in all of this. Like, am I still in here somewhere under all the mental lists and constant worry?
I feel selfish even typing this because I know how lucky I am. But some days I look in the mirror and think "I used to know who you were."
Maybe this is just what growing up looks like. Maybe becoming a mother means parts of your old self naturally fade away.
But I miss her sometimes. The woman who had time to think about herself without feeling guilty.
Questions:
- Do you ever miss who you were before becoming a mom?
- What part of your "before" self do you wish you could hold onto?
- Have you found ways to reconnect with yourself, or does it feel impossible right now?
