Rants about Extinction Mode being a nuisance rather than challenge
One month into surviving in Extinction, here are my rants:
- Towns now being impossible to stay in (sprinters+endless alarms) means you are forced to flee into the woods and play rural style, which is a severe restriction on the style of play.
- I don't go the 0/0 str/fitness start, but at 5/5 I still get exhausted after killing like 15 zeds even with a balanced mix of shove/hammer in the head/stomp. I did a sandbox trial with 10/10/10 short blade, still can't get past 40 without the exhausted moodle. So you can't even grind youself to combat readiness.
- Stealth is now a joke with all those alarms and sprinters with extra long memory. One misstep will cause you the entire run.
- Guns - which i have long argued that even the old Apoc was too punishing - are now virtually unplayable. Firing a handgun (assuming you can even find one with bullets) anywhere in town will draw in 2000 zeds to you, plus that 10 sprinters. Instant GG.
- Looting in town is now way too cost-ineffective because there are always 200 zeds circling around even for areas you previously cleared, which is both annoying and unrealistic.
- Calories management worsening - it was already quite annoying before in the old Apoc but more than manageable as you accumulate fatty renewable food sources. Now, you either find a Holstein cow or you are screwed in the long term. I have to keep foraging and eating bugs just to keep myself above 75 to avoid the underweight trait onset while waiting for my crops to grow because I ain't got no cows for butters, which not only adds to the boredom of grinding, but also unsustainable when the winter months set in.
For a veteran who only plays long runs with permadeath on, Extinction is to me more a nuisance than a challenge.
