₹20,000 mess fee hike despite years of complaints about food quality?

So SRM AP decided to increase the hostel/mess fees by around ₹20,000 and students are obviously frustrated.

What I don't understand is how we're expected to happily pay more when people have been complaining about the food for years. We already pay a ridiculous amount for hostel and mess, yet the food quality keeps going down.

There was literally a food poisoning incident in the past where a lot of students got sick and classes were suspended. We've protested before regarding mess issues too.

Now the answer being given is "new vendor is coming." Seriously? We're supposed to pay ₹20k extra based on a promise?

And then comes the representation problem. We have a student council but students don't even elect them. They're selected by the university.

I'm not saying every council member is bad or works for management, but let's be honest, how are students supposed to fully trust them on issues like this?

Then there are student pages. Troll SRMAP has at least been posting and talking about the fee hike. But Jilebi Updates feels completely different these days. Maybe it's just me, but it used to feel more student oriented. Now whenever students raise concerns, the replies are things like "new vendor is coming", "let's wait and see", "the university has reasons", etc. Recently it's mostly appreciation posts and congratulations posts for university officials.

I'm not saying they're controlled by management because I have no proof of that. But when students are angry about a ₹20k increase and one of the biggest student pages is giving replies like this . people are naturally going to start questioning things.

At this point it feels like Reddit is the only place where students can actually discuss this stuff openly.

This is a real serious issue we students are not money producing machines, 20k increment is ridiculous. We no longer need any useless explanations , we are not happy to pay more !!!
