Five: Horizontal Wall Mounting Options
Hi all
Here is how I currently have my Five mounted on the wall in the kitchen - utilizing the "Sonos recommended" Flexson wall mount (a $90 mount!!). I've had it for about 3 months now. (Ignore the power cable for now. I'll be covering it up with one of those self adhesive cable trays/covers paint matched gray.)
I spent a ton of time before landing on this Flexson wall mount. There aren't that many options in the market for horizontal mounting. Even this Flexson was hard to find.
But the esthetics, the looks of it started bothering me. It has that commercial/industrial space look. Like you would have in a barber shop/salon. So I'm thinking a heavy duty floating shelf (like the one in the photo I've attached) might have been a better - a cozier - option. For the main living/dining space.
My question is, with the floating shelf option posted on these photos above, the speaker will be about 2" closer to the wall compared to the Flexson mount (Is that why Sonos recommends Flexson? To have that ~4" clearance?) The back of the Speaker will have roughly inch and a half (1.5") clearance off the wall. Would this result in a "deteriorated" sound? Bass response?
I know these are closed/sealed speakers. There is no bass reflex port at the back or anything. But I'm coming from conventional Hi-Fi. Speaker placement for bookshelf speakers is a big deal.
Does Sonos have an official placement recommendation for Fives? I couldnt find any. Seems like they are made to be placed wherever... Including inside an actual bookshelf!!
Appreciate your insights!
