Another where to live post + question

Moving / Visiting

TLDR: Where to move for suburbia with access to the airport? And please tell me about portable ACs or how to live in an apartment without AC 🥲

I have been browsing the many "moving, where should I live" posts, but instead of being young and wanting to live in a walkable, fun area I am in my mid-30s and want to be in the suburbs 🙃

I'm a mid-30s female & moving solo. If you're familiar with North Dallas/Carrollton, TX that is the exact type of area I would like to be in :') But basically near a grocery store and/or a big box store. Bonus if there are sidewalks or a green space to run. I'll be working at the airport but will have a car, so while being near public transit for personal travel would be nice it's not necessary. I don't want to be cliche and say I'm looking for a safe neighborhood, I've lived in cities all my life, but because I have lived in the 'burbs I'm not used to seeing the homeless outside my front door, which from my googling sounds not uncommon in Seattle. But if this is the nature of living in the Seattle area it is what it is :) Also, I know this is the Ask Seattle sub, but any thoughts on living in Tacoma, or Tacoma area?

As for my question, it seems like AC is hard to find in apartments (in my price range). My current apartment doesn't have AC but I have a window unit... it doesn't look like apartments in Seattle accommodate those and a portable AC is more common. How is using a portable AC and any recommendations on one to buy? Or tips on living in an apartment without AC?

If you have read all of this I appreciate it! Thank you for any responses in advance :)
