PIMI Mothers response to Social Media Accounts

Venting

I asked my very devout PIMI mother if she thought Watchtower would create social media accounts (prior to the announcement she heard today at her midweek meeting). Her instinct was to think they were fake but said she couldn’t be absolutely sure. I (knowing they were real) said “Well, it would seem very hypocritical for Wathtower to be heavily cynical of social media for nearly two decades to then start embracing it now. She said thinks it’s likely fake but would ask her local elder. She texted back an hour prior to her meeting that the local elder confirmed the accounts were real. I waited to talk to her after the meeting announcement where she said that the Watchtower did create the accounts to primarily to make posts targeting governments and news outlets. I reiterated how it’s hypocritical for Watchtower to do that after nearly two decades of cynical statements regarding social media. She pushed back and said she while at the meeting did a quick search and found an article where Watchtower said something positive regarding social media. I pushed back and said I did a search on JW.org and the three pages I reviewed all had painted social media in a negative light and that just because she can scour nearly two decades of material and find one or two positive statements it doesn’t change that the overwhelming advice from Watchtower has been negative regarding social media. I then used Watchtowers own argument regarding Birthdays and how Watchtower argues that while the Bible doesn’t outright ban birthdays, the Bible always painted them in a bad light and that’s why true Christians don’t celebrate birthdays, so I said same with Watchtower and social media. I ended by saying that if Watchtowers goal is to reach governments and news media, why use two platforms known for titties and autism to do so. Thoughts anyone?
