Mosquitos in Apartment - 3 summers in a row with no solution
Hi All! Really need some help here. I’ve lived in my apartment since fall of 2021. I’m on the 6th floor (top floor) of a pre-war building. In the summer of 2024, I started having a serious mosquito issue. I’m talking days where I’d see like 10+ mosquitos every day in my unit and I’d go on a wild goose chase trying to kill all of them. I had constant bug bites and it really took a toll on my mental health. I was constantly lighting citronella candles and purchased pricier repellent balls on Amazon that did absolutely nothing. I’d also ensure there’s was no standing water left in dishes or anything. I contacted management about this multiple times and they sent exterminators but there was nothing they could do. They insisted there was no standing water behind the walls or anything. My next door neighbors confirmed that they were not experiencing this at all. The issue went away in the fall and came back again the following summer. It was just as bad last summer, but towards the end of the summer, my super noticed the skylight windows weren’t properly sealed and closed them up. Once that was taken care of, it got better but not entirely. Again, it went away in the fall. Now that it’s essentially summer, the issue is starting up again. In the last 2 days, I’ve woken up with multiple mosquito bites on my arms and legs. I found a dead one in my bed that I must’ve gotten in the middle of the night. Just this morning, I killed 4. I saw a few here in there in recent weeks but it’s definitely picking up now.
All this to say, despite the numerous exterminator visits and contacting management about this multiple times, it’s still an issue. At this point, I need someone to look behind the walls or something to make sure there’s no standing water. Like I don’t even know what can be done at this point but I’m losing my mind. Any thoughts or advice?
