My car was towed from my apartment complex and I’m wondering if this sounds reasonable or if I should fight it.

When I moved in, there were other residents parking in a gravel area (pictured), so I assumed it was an acceptable place to park. There were no signs posted saying parking wasn’t allowed there, and I never received any prior warning. (It’s been 4 months)

I parked my vehicle around 1:00 PM after work. I was later told a tow sticker was placed on it around 3:00 PM, and the vehicle was towed around 3:00 AM. So I effectively had about 12 hours of notice, most of which occurred overnight.

To make matters worse, I work from 4:00 AM to 1:00 PM, so I wouldn’t reasonably have been able to see any notice placed on the vehicle during that time.

There are no signs in the area, and I don’t recall anything in my lease specifically mentioning that this gravel area was prohibited parking, besides “must park in designated parking spaces “ but not saying anything about “must be on blacktop”. The whole parking lot is trashed, faded lines, cracked roads, the whole nine yards.

Does this sound like a legitimate tow, or should I be pushing back with the apartment complex? Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice would be appreciated.
