Has anyone had experience with travel insurance covering trip cancellation due to surprise pregnancy?
Hi all,
I’m planning an international trip to Peru in September and trying to choose travel insurance. One of my main concerns is whether the policy would cover non-refundable flights, hotels, and tours if I become pregnant after purchasing the policy and decide/need to cancel the trip before departure.
I’ve been comparing a few plans, and the wording seems to vary a lot. Most policies appear to exclude “normal pregnancy.” I’ve also seen some plans where coverage may depend on whether a doctor specifically advises cancellation.
Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation?
Specifically curious about:
- Did you ever face a similar situation or know of any travel insurance that covers cancellation due to pregnancy post bookings?
- Did they require a doctor’s note saying you were medically unable/advised not to travel?
- Any experience with Faye, Allianz, BHTP, Starr/Aegis, or similar providers?
I know every policy is different and I’m hearing different things from insurance support agents. I’d love to hear from anyone who has filed a claim or asked this question before buying.
