Thoughts on Out of Town Guest logistics/schedule

Everything Else

Hi all!!

I’d love to get thoughts from folks who had a majority of guests come from out of town on our current wedding weekend plan

For some background info: my lovely fiancé and I are from the same hometown on the East coast. We’ve since moved to the Midwest and are planning on hosting in our new state of residence. We’re treating this like a chance to introduce our friends and families to the new place we call home, but it means that probably 90% of our 50 or so person wedding will be flying in from out of town and either renting a car or relying on uber/lyft to get around during the wedding weekend

We already have a venue selected - a stunning historic inn on a riverside town about a half hour drive from the nearest metro (where we currently live and where guests will be flying into)

Our current plan for the wedding weekend is…

  1. Friday afternoon rehearsal with our 6 person wedding party and friend who will be officiating at our house from 3-50’
  2. Our city has a pretty unique annual art festival on the weekend of our wedding that’s a pretty big deal - the biggest of its kind in the country. They have food trucks, concerts, craft beer from local breweries, and you could go for a full day and still not see everything there is to see. We think it could be cool to bring some close friends and family to the festival on Friday after our rehearsal but it might pack things pretty tightly and it can be a bit overwhelming. The festival would open at 5pm
  3. Friday evening welcome dinner (7:30pm to 9:30pm) at our house, open house style pizza and beers. It was important for us to have a (low stakes) chance to catch up with everyone and make sure we get to say hi to the people traveling so far for the wedding.
  4. Friday evening - post welcome dinner, Guests drive approx 30 minutes to stay in hotels near wedding venue
  5. Late Saturday afternoon Ceremony and Saturday evening Reception

We considered a farewell brunch but we know we’ll be tired and the chances of us getting out of bed early to host on the day after our wedding are slim to none. Plus it gives folks the ability to go hard at the reception and not need to be presentable a few hours later. It also gives folks the chance to explore the area on their town before heading back to the airport

My questions are:

  1. Does that timeline seem approachable for out of town guests?
  2. Is Driving 30 minutes in the evening after a welcome dinner a huge lift? Should we expect that folks will want to
  3. Would it be too much to try and get the art festival in there? It can be a lot but it’s very cool, an awesome crash course introduction to our city, and it’s not something they’d get to see every day. In my opinion so worth it!!!!

Any tips? Pointers? I’m m just trying to be a good host lololol
