Advice - Media to help learn/understand Lucha Libre and Lucha culture
Howdy everybody,
I'm a game developer and my company is in the VERY early stages of making game that involves Lucha Libre in various aspects. While I can't get too specific on what we are doing, I can say that it's heavily inspired by many of the movies El Santo starred in during the 60s and 70s.
As I've been an on/off wrestling fan for most of my life, there are some parts of Lucha I understand, but I know there are things I either am not aware of or simply don't know. My colleagues on the other hand have little to no knowledge of anything Lucha.
So as I'm looking to compile a list of media that the team will consume to help us understand the ins and outs of Lucha, I wanted to come to those who know it best to get suggestions and recommendations. Here's what I have so far:
- Select El Santo movies (just need to find Operation 67 somewhere)
- Select episodes of Lucha Underground (No sure which episodes, but I think given the more produced nature of it, it'd be a good reference for our game)
- AAA (The El Grande Americano match that happened this past week is def one I'm gonna share, I'm also looking to find a video or something that summarizes the whole feud for their reference)
- I also am referencing this amazing guide on r/SquaredCircle about Mexican wrestling which has links that discuss vocab and such.
What I'd love to get from you guys is any suggestions on movies, tv shows, books, websites, or even specific matches or episodes of shows to watch. I want to make sure this list of media can give an understanding of what Lucha is both in and out of the ring, so I'd love to hear any and all suggestions.
Thanks!
